usuallyhats: close up of Jo Grant from Doctor Who; text reads "I don't know what I've been worrying about." (jo is cheerful (and sarcastic))
MORE SJA SQUEE. (I am pretty much All Squee All The Time about this episode, to the point of not even reading negative reactions, because they will only make me sad.)

The good thing about working late on Monday evenings is that I can come home and collapse in front of the telly without any guilt about how I should be studying. Also it turns out wine makes me better at University Challenge. This is a useful fact to know.

Spooks! spoilers )

Almost failed to get out of bed this morning, but then George Osborne popped up on the radio and it was either get up or lie there getting angrier and angrier, muttering things like "your assertion is DEMONSTRABLY INCORRECT" under my breath, so. Anyway. Also from the department of things I have opinions on: this week's SJA. spoilers for The Vault of Secrets )

In less ranty news: [livejournal.com profile] trek_news is looking for new editors! I had to stop doing my weekly edition due to new busy-ness, but it's not really that time-consuming, and we are always looking for backup editors if you don't think you can commit to a weekly edition. It's a really fun newsletter to be involved with, I recommend it! And if you have any questions, feel free to ask me, or email trek.news@gmail.com.

1) I don't know how many of you read the library comic Unshelved, but they have just introduced a new character called Elsie (points at icon) and I want to be her when I grow up. And since she is a cataloguer who brandishes her knitting when she is annoyed... I feel I have made a good start. (ETA: as [livejournal.com profile] nentari and [livejournal.com profile] hhertzof pointed out, she isn't actually new, we just haven't seen her for a while. Should've done more research before I posted...)

2) I finally caught up with SJA! "The Nightmare Man" made my heart all squishy. spoilers ) And then there was the first part of "The Vault of Secrets", which I did not love quite so much, but did some things I really liked. May say more about that after part two.

3) Also Spooks happened! more spoilers )
usuallyhats: The cast of Critical Role sitting round a table playing Dungeons and Dragons (sarah jane suit-tastic)
It was awesome! I'm not going to say anything detailed about the episode itself in this post, but I really really loved it - I had a few niggles, but I usually do, and overall it was great. There was a panel Q&A afterwards, and I took some photos, which are here - contains casting spoilers, and also a lot of pictures of London, because I got to the Southbank quite early and the sunset was lovely. Also there are a couple of photos of us all dressed up as Sarah Jane. (I am the one on the far right.) Anyway, onto the event itself! I expect most people know the casting spoilers already, but I shall cut this just in case. There aren't any spoilers beyond that, though. here is the said cut )

And then on Wednesday morning I went straight from London to UWE for lectures, not getting home until about quarter to nine, and as a consequence my brain is not working as well as it might be this morning. Also I have a headache. But it was absolutely worth it.

2) SJA was aces as ever, might talk about it properly after I have seen both parts, but I don't know when that will be as am off to London this afternoon to see the preview screening of the episode with the spoilertastic title, with [livejournal.com profile] silly_cleo, [livejournal.com profile] carawj and [livejournal.com profile] cosmic_llin :DDDDD

- SJA today was WONDERFULNESS, even more so than usual. spoilers and babble )

- Alert alert alert: Now Show tickets available! Anyone want to go?

- I read Earth Abides while I was on holiday (a book about a plague that wipes out almost the entire population of Earth, not exactly a cheery pick but the book pile must be obeyed) and am rather torn about it. On the one hand, it was very well written and developed, and the tone was nicely melancholic without being too depressing, but on the other hand, the attitudes towards gender, race and disability were, well, skeevy is putting it mildly. Ack.

- I have many things to do tonight and tomorrow, none of them were or are "make a new wallpaper for the laptop", and yet... The picture was posted on Shakesville a few days ago and as soon as I saw it I wanted a wallpaper of it, it is just a great image.

By dint of typing it many times for today's [livejournal.com profile] soniclipstick I have remembered that this one is called Secrets of the Stars part 1. I had to think just then before I typed it out though. Anyway, here are some thoughts on it:

(Earlier on I was listening to the BBC's adaptation of HMS Surprise; it is pretty good, and has Adjoa "Francine Jones" Andoh as Diana Villiers, but I could really have done without the brain surgery sound effects, thanks. Ick.)

What this post is really about: fairly disjointed thoughts on this week's Sarah Jane Adventures! spoilers )

(Now I am listening to a podcast about Benny; Paul Cornell just described her as "me in a frock", heh)
