Recently I have been sort of vaguely moving towards making Dreamwidth my primary online home, since they keep doing things I like, and since LJ keeps doing things that vaguely irritate me. I've got no plans to leave LJ or stop crossposting, though! And I'm also not planning to consolidate comments at the moment, though that may change. With all of that in mind, here is a poll! I have never created a poll before so it is possible that I may have made a frantic bish of it. Please do shout at me if so.

2.) I watched Strange Days last night, on the_smut_fairy's recommenedation, and it was very good. I wasn't sure at first that it was going to be my sort of thing, but I was wrong. The more I watched, the more invested I got in the characters - I don't think I have ever hoped so desperately for a film to have a happy ending before. ( and now I shall cut for spoilers )

I went to see A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Tobacco Factory on Friday! I was a little worried about how it would compare with the fantastic outdoor production I saw last summer, but I needn't have been - although it didn't have the acres of energy that that one did, it was still an excellent production. It was a little slow to start, but I think that's just how the play is (all that setup business at the beginning can drag a tad), and it picked up quickly. The fairies' lullaby was genuinely creepy and rather magical, and the second half was amazing. I was in stitches at the play within a play, especially the Wall. Titania's dress was lovely, sadly I can't find a decent picture of it online (*shakes fist at the internets*) but it was big and red and came with an armoured shrug, heh. And I really liked their Helena, which is good because I can usually take or leave her. Also, apparently I am so used to seeing productions with female Pucks that I'm more surprised when the character's played by a man now!

I went back to Cheltenham for a flying visit at the weekend, it being Mother's Day and The Sister being there. I came last at scrabble but won Trivial Pursuits so overall the game situation was neutral.

Something I like about Dreamwidth, randomly: when you click on "x comments" it actually takes you to the comments, rather than to the top of the post. It's always annoyed me that LJ doesn't do that.

2.) Also I watched Law and Order: UK and Ping-Cho from Marco Polo was in it! I love TV.

3.) Changed my layout last night: shinyjenni. I didn't really do much other than use one of their standard ones, but I did fiddle with some of the colours and bump up the text size a bit to make it readable. I wish I knew enough CSS to code a layout from scratch!

1) I have a spare hardcopy of Vortexxxxxxx magazine to give away if anyone wants it gone! - Big Finish sent my copies of The Mahogany Murders and Enemy of the Daleks in separate envelopes this month, for some obscure reason.

2) Is there an easy way to code Dreamwidth usernames into Livejournal posts? Like so: shinyjenni. I have a method, but it involves an awful lot of code and copy 'n' pasting, and I'm sure there must be an easier way!

3) I finished Reckless Engineering last night! I thoroughly enjoyed it and sat up rather later than I should have to read it. Quick thoughts: ( spoilers )

Eurovision was great this year. And by great I mean I won both the sweetstakes. Hurrah! Also Hett, Rach, Mark and I had a lovely Eurovision party with lots of European and Europeanish food, dancing around, flag making and enthusiastic waving (the red felt tips ran out so my Icelandic flag had to have a pink cross instead of a red one, but it looked pretty so never mind), and VERY TENSE voting: no-one had Norway but I had Iceland and Rach had Azerbaijan, and they fought it out for second place right up until the very last vote. As for the actual songs, I liked Norway's entry but it didn't stand out as one that would DEFINITELY WIN, so I was a bit surprised by the landslide. I was also surprised at how well our entry did: it wasn't bad, but it was a bit bland. The lyrics weren't terribly interesting and neither was the staging (apart from the bit where she got too close to a violinist and almost ended up with an elbow in the face, but I don't think that was planned. Well done her for not being put off by it, though). In the "why didn't they do better category?" are Portugal (so colourful and happy!), Germany (come on, they had SHINY TROUSERS and DITA VON TEESE, awesome) and Ukraine (anti-crisis girl! Dancers dressed as centurions (Roman, not Battlestar Galactica)!).

I have been watching a lot of Red Dwarf recently, finally getting round to catching up on the seasons that I never saw on TV. Also it turned out that Hetty had just borrowed the DVDs from a friend since she'd never seen them, so we watched seasons three and four at the weekend. Although I hadn't seen any of the episodes except 'Polymorph' all the way through, I'd seen lots of clips and picked things up via fannish osmosis, not to mention reading both script books and some of the novels many many times, so it was a strange mix of new and familiar. Anyway, all v. funny - I think my favourite episode so far is 'Marooned' - and I may end up buying the rest of the DVDs instead of renting them. (Er. Also, have I gone completely mad or is Chris Barrie really very sexy? Answers on a postcard!)

Hetty also lent me Moonlight (ever since I introduced her to Buffy last year she has been all about the vampire dramas). I am three episodes in and enjoying it, though I wish they'd swapped the genders of the leads. I always think that but Moonlight in particular would have benefited - it would have made the bits of it that are rather generic much more interesting. I do like that ( spoilers! )

Really not very happy about The Sarah Connor Chronicles getting cancelled - when I heard Dollhouse had been renewed it got my hopes up because I thought that surely the universe was not so unfair as to renew the latter but not the former. Apparently I was wrong. D:

In other words, I have a Dreamwidth journal now: shinyjenni. Have been busy importing entries, adding people (anyone I've missed, please let me know!) and tinkering with my layout. This last is still ongoing, so if you look at it and it's all wossname, that probably means that I'm sitting at my laptop going "AHHHHH!" and trying to undo whatever it is I've just done. I have no invite codes at present, but if I get any I shall offer them around here. And I shouldn't think I'll be leaving LJ, but I might crosspost.

Hurrah, bank holiday weekend! I keep forgetting I have Monday off; hopefully this will not lead to me accidentally going to work on Monday, that would be rubbish.
