- Vidukon registration is open! I went to this in 2011 and it was great, so I am going again this year. :D

- [community profile] fandom_stocking is live! I am having a slight issue whereby new comments in my stocking are still being screened, so I've only had a quick peek (I don't want to look at them properly before I can respond properly...), but it looks like there are some very lovely and exciting things in there. Thank you, everyone! ♥ I made fewer things than I wanted to but more than I feared, will probably stick them on AO3 and Teaspoon and make a roundup post at some point.

- As usual I am way behind with my RSS feeds. Here are some fairly old links:
  • "My Bustle's Stuck!: Women Vs. Victorian Values in 'The Snowmen'". I'm sure a lot of you have read this already, but if not, I recommend it. I'm still pretty meh on the episode overall, but this piece gave me renewed appreciation for one aspect of it.

  • I also enjoyed Space Station Politics on Lashings of Ginger Beer Time's blog, about building the future in SF, particularly in DS9 and Babylon 5. I particularly liked the point about a conversation between Sisko and Kasidy in "Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang" (she said vaguely).

The contents page for Chicks Unravel Time is out! Which is particularly exciting for me as I have an essay in it. :D It looks like it's going to be a really great book, I can't wait to read it!

On a related note, I've been thoroughly enjoying [twitter.com profile] tansyrr's Where the Wonder Women Are series of posts on various female characters in comics, and also her Pratchett's women series. Highly recommended, go and read if you haven't already!

I keep meaning to link things I come across in Google Reader and then realising that I'm a week and a half behind, so the moment has probably passed. Oh well. One day I will catch up. Maybe.

A couple of things I made for [community profile] three_weeks_for_dw; it's been three weeks since I posted them, so I can link them here now! Anon/Open ID commenting should be enabled on both, unless I have messed something up (entirely possible).

1) Leverage ensemble mood theme! (The one I've been using on this journal recently.)

2) Fifteen Whoniverse icons, all eras. A few Amy/River, some other people. Teasers:

- Finished watching Genesis of the Daleks yesterday. Thoughts:

spoilers )

- And then I watched Revenge of the Cybermen, the first new-to-me story since Planet of the Spiders. Reactions:

spoilers )

- It was my afternoon off yesterday; I had Grand Plans involving making a necklace tree out of wire and papier mâché (*scatters accents randomly*), but the wire I had was too thin, so I went up to the craft shop to get some better stuff, which they didn't have. So I made some earrings instead.

picture! )

- Two links, coincidentally both from Twitter: 1) Stephen Fry - sorry , Step Hen Free - reaches one million followers; triggers an event in the continuum. 2) Javier Grillo-Marxuach linked this fantastic picture of Natalie Morales and Matt Keeslar from the filming of the pilot episode of The Middleman, which I can't stop looking at. Am now attempting to make The Middleman be uncancelled through the power of MY BRANE.

- Via io9, via [profile] hhertzof in Google Reader: Lovelace and Babbage: Together, They Fight Crime! Includes Wolverine!Brunel. ♥ The notes are also really interesting and fun to read, and occasionally say things like this:

The Difference Engine prints large tables of numbers without error. If that is not cool enough for you, you are reading the wrong comic my friends. It does battle vampires at some point but it has its own way of doing that thank you very much.

There is swag, too, and I am trying to decide whether spending about £20 on this t-shirt is a) ridiculous or b) sensible: I usually buy all my clothes in charity shops so my perspective on what is good value is a little skewed.

- My parents emailed me this v. silly video of sheep, which made me laugh a great deal.

- The Miserable Life of Tom Quinn, Spy. Being The Tragic Story of the Third Saddest Spy in the History of the World. By A Lady.

- HOME TEAM 2009: ROUND TWO. Everyone go and vote for your favourites! Round one was full of AGONISING CHOICES but I found this one a bit easier. Am v. sad that Kira is losing to Daria though: yes, Daria is awesome, but ...Kira! Also I still lament the fact that Wendy Watson went out in round one. :(

Here are some links to things I thought were interesting.

The BBC iPlayer is Just Too Popular, heh. Though I must admit I did not understand all the words in that article.

Filming starts on new Spooks spin off. This has the potential to be pretty spiffy, I think. Either that or a complete trainwreck; either way, it'll be entertaining. And it's a good concept because it's not just more of the same (though I wouldn't mind that) but actually allows them to do what they can't on the parent show, i.e. show the consequences of not thwarting some terrible cataclysmic event at the eleventh hour.

Lucy Mangan in the Grauniad on the updated Famous Five and children's literature in general. No commentary to add here except "yes, EXACTLY!".
