1) I don't know how many of you read the library comic Unshelved, but they have just introduced a new character called Elsie (points at icon) and I want to be her when I grow up. And since she is a cataloguer who brandishes her knitting when she is annoyed... I feel I have made a good start. (ETA: as [livejournal.com profile] nentari and [livejournal.com profile] hhertzof pointed out, she isn't actually new, we just haven't seen her for a while. Should've done more research before I posted...)

2) I finally caught up with SJA! "The Nightmare Man" made my heart all squishy. SJA is just full of loveliness, isn't it? They defeated the Nightmare Man with the power of their love! And it was all about how growing up is scary, and how it's ok to be jealous, or sad that your friends are leaving, because you're happy for them too. ♥ ♥ ♥ (I also appreciated that there weren't any "hee, Clyde has feelings like a GIRL" bits, or a moment where Clyde and Luke realise they're holding hands and are all !!!. I wouldn't expect either of those things from SJA but it was still really nice.) And, oh, Sarah trying to be all strong! And GIVING LUKE K9. And K9 and Mr Smith! Their love is so technological. SO MUCH LOVE. And then there was the first part of "The Vault of Secrets", which I did not love quite so much, but did some things I really liked. May say more about that after part two.

3) Also Spooks happened! I thought that was a pretty great episode. So tense in places! Sadly neither of my OTPs (I am shipping Tariq/Dmitri to go with Ruth/Beth) has much time together but that was OK as there was a great teamwork bit with Dmitri and Tariq and Ruth pulling together to work out what the sniper was up to. ♥ And the episode as a whole was remarkably free of Lucas's manpain, excellent. Though really, what was Harry thinking, sending Lucas to cheer Dmitri up? Lucas is not exactly the poster boy for cheeriness (with good reason, to be fair).

LOL Okay then... It looks like Vaughan's played him - and I confess I'm not entirely surprised 'cos Iain Glen does play a lot of bad guys!

Elsie is actually an old character - she just hasn't appeared in ages. Go here (http://www.unshelved.com/2005-10-24) to read the first storyline in which she has appeared.

She stuck in my memory since I specialized in cataloging; that first storyline was like staring at my dream job. :)

As someone pointed out, this isn't her first appearance.

And yes, cataloging knitter (or knitting cataloger). I resemble that remark.

Yeah I liked the love. I even like crotchety old but somehow sweet and still ass kicking dream Sarah Jane in the wheel chair.

I thought last night's Sarah Jane was much crankier. All the characters were rather cranky. Less love. I wonder why? Is this a story arc about Luke being gone making everyone less lovely or something?

Also not impressed by the Men in Black, BUT I think it's interesting that with last year's Roswell references and Dreamland they are building a consistent mythos to explain the various details that gather around "real world" UFO sightings.

I suppose this week's wasn't really about how much they all love each other... shame!

Yeah. But on Monday I wasn't sure they even really liked each other.

However, I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED part 2. Whatever was missing from part 1 they more than made up for in part 2 as far as I'm concerned.

I do think that Sarah Jane is harder this season, and it bothered me a little. But then I realized she's not still going on about how she travelled the universe in a phone box, and then one day it all just ended and if she's been grieving it ever since. So yeah she's taken back charge of her life and decided a girl can still get along ok with a spot of tea, a good book and an alien super computer in the attic! So go Sarah Jane.
