- Day got off to a bad start when I checked my email, saw a [livejournal.com profile] trek_news related one and realised that I had COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN about yesterday's edition. FAIL. There followed about an hour and a half of coding like a fiend, only pausing every now and then to issue books or similar, and I managed to get it posted only about twelve hours later than usual, so that's something at least.

- Faintly, in the distance, I can hear the macarena.

- I started reading Short Trips: Companions last night and I must admit, I was a little disappointed at first, not least because the typesetting was terrible: most of the spaces after the full stops seemed to have been deleted, ditto spaces after commas, and it made it very hard to read without feeling like you were dashing headlong through it. Also, I wasn't madly keen on the first three stories; they weren't bad, but the first one was not really how I like to imagine Zoe's future, the second was rather willfully obscure, and the third was a good idea that didn't quite come off. HOWEVER. Story number four was Apocrypha Bipedium, which caused my face to go :DDD almost constantly. I adored the way it was done, with all the fake source texts and things. The Vicki bits were fab, really well done, and I loved her wondering whether she could invent things yet, and thinking Eight might be a robot double, and oh, everything. And then there were Eight's sections, name-dropping and silliness abounding. The Auntie Flavia bits were also very funny, and as well as that the line about the Doctor deserving what happened to him next added a lovely chilling note that worked v. well. AND THEN I TURNED THE PAGE AND FOUND THE LIST OF THINGS SHAKESPEARE IS NOT ALLOWED TO MENTION ♥ ♥ ♥ Also on the Short Trips front, I finished A Day In The Life recently, I wasn't entirely convinced that the linking strand worked, but it certainly didn't harm any of the stories. I particularly enjoyed the Five 'n' Turlough one, One Wednesday Afternoon, and the Seven 'n' Benny one, How You Get There, for the evocative descriptions, some lovely Seven characterisation and, last but not least, who Benny ended up flirting with. Hee!
