"Sticky tape on the windows, that sort of thing."
Monday, 27 July 2009 20:04I got my photos developed! Have got the day off work and am assuaging the post-holiday blues with baking (I'm hosting Stitch and Witch tomorrow; also I like baking) and Doctor Who. Since I got back I have watched The Mind of Evil, rewatched The Claws of Axos and seen part one of Colony in Space. I think I know now why everyone says this era is awesome: it is because it is, in fact, awesome. I am not all that keen on Three and though I like Jo I do not have the Mad Love for her that I have for many other companions, and yet mix them together with UNIT and Delgado!Master and suddenly it is all sparkly winningness.
- Delgado is just fantastic. I'd heard how great he is, of course, and seen the odd story, but he's just electric in every scene he's in. Wonderful.
- Jo is so sweet and sunny, and also she gets to beat people up sometimes. I approve. Also I like it when the Doctor claims the Axon duplicates would take too long to explain, and she manages it in three words.
- The Doctor's on first name terms with Mao? ...huh. I am pleased the Doctor is both respectful of and clearly au fait with Chinese culture, at least. And there is no yellowface. And I do like Chin Lee, it's a shame she only got to be mind controlled and a bit evil before disappearing from the story altogether.
- Undercover Brig! Brilliant.
- Awww, Benton wants to go and rescue Yates despite having an actual concussion. I ship them a bit, yes.
- "What happened?"
"...Quite a lot."
- I love that Jo completely accepts the Doctor's stories about meeting Sir Walter Raleigh without even batting an eyelid. Seems a bit weird that she doesn't believe him in Colony in Space, though, unless she was just humouring him here.
- HEEEE the Master is so polite about asking to speak to the Doctor on the phone! He is so civilised, except for the whole killing people thing.
- "Doctor! Come back at once!" OK, slipping a bit into Comically Incompetent Brig, but it was still funny.
- Oh hurray, incredibly seventies colonists! :D
University Challenge is back! The UCL team contains a Library and Information Science student and correctly answered a question about xkcd. I think I know which team I'll be supporting. Er, assuming they come back as one of the highest scoring losers, since they lost their first round match. Oops.
