Wow, my internets are slow tonight. As I'm at work til 7.30, this is a bit annoying. I want to go home and watch Doctor Who and make more Law and Order icons! Harrumph.

Last night at Stitch 'n' Witch we were talking about the film Lesbian Vampire Killers - well, actually, I didn't have to say anything as [livejournal.com profile] the_smut_fairy said exactly what I was thinking, i.e. that I was a lot more excited about it when I thought it was about lesbians killing vampires rather than the two blokes from Gavin and Stacey killing vampire lesbians - and I've just been reading a review of it (linked at The F Word here, (contains many spoilers, btw) some good discussion in the comments too) that both confirms my desire not to see it and makes me feel like adding it to my list of things that make me hate the world a bit. Bah. By way of corrective, can anyone rec me any sf/fantasy films with good female characters in them?

Something I've been meaning to link for a while: Radio 4 is cancelling its one regular children's programme, which is a bit sad, especially since said programme had actually been pretty good recently and definitely a marked improvement on how it was when it started. On the other hand, the article mentions that they've got a few adaptations of children's books coming up, one of which is Black Hearts in Battersea, which I love. Hurray, won't have to boycott Radio 4 after all! (I've been boycotting Radio 5 since they stopped doing children's programmes in 1994, possibly the most pointless boycott ever as I have no interest in sport and would therefore not listen anyway, but it is the principle of the thing.)

Quite right too!

I also thought the film was about lesbians who were vampire killers. Not even the knowledge that Paul McGann is in it will persuade me to see it... :(

You're making L&O icons? Oh crumbs!!

How will the internet know I like it if I don't make icons? :)

LOL That's a bit like me writing the fic.

That's another reason to wish it were a better film!

I'm sure!

Wow! Thanks for that information - I love that book. Well, all that series.

Everyone I've seen write about this thing has said they'd rather watch the film about vampire killers who are lesbians rather than the film about killers of lesbian vampires.

On the other hand, oooh oooh Black Hearts in Battersea! That was quite good on the telly and I trust the Beeb not to faff about with it too much (hasn't read the book, should probably do something about that when Reading Time is available again).

If you haven't already seen it, you may enjoy the mini-series 'Criminal Justice' which was shown on BBC 1 last summer. It's slightly darker than Law and Order, although it does star Bill Paterson, although this time he's the DS rather than CPS.
