Firstly, y'all should go and buy [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's book, it is ace.

Secondly, finding flats is hard. But fun! I'm trying to resist the urge to go to TK Maxx and spend all my savings on house stuff.

Thirdly, films! Last week [livejournal.com profile] kate46 and I went to see Wallace and Gromit which was... funny and sweet but not hilarious. Also, Serenity. I read an interview with Joss Whedon in which he said something along the lines of "The first thing you should try and do is make the audience feel. If you can't do that, you should make them think. If you can't do that, you should make them laugh." I think he's managed all three. You're rarely anything less than right there in the moment with the characters, and, the first time I saw it at least, I really believed most of them weren't going to survive. (This is why I think killing Wash was the right thing to do. If he's not safe then no-one is.) This was probably less true for people who weren't Firefly fans, but when Serenity is disguised as a Reaver ship and then crash-landed on Mr Universe's planet (which probably has a name that I don't remember) it hurt, seeing the ship desecrated and damaged. And in the final montage, I loved seeing Inara repainting Serenity's name on the side of the ship. It emphasised the fact that she's family, and so is Serenity. As to making me think, this about sums it up: Why CS Lewis would have liked Serenity. And of course it made me laugh, because Jossian humour is exactly the kind I like. Whee! One final thing I noticed: Mal has futuristic braces now!

And, speaking of Reivers (well sorta), I've just finished The Sterkarm Handshake, which is v. good and should be read by all.
