To get it out of the way, the one thing I didn't like about the episodes: using the amnesia spray on Chrissie. Shades of Donna's fate (which I am still annoyed about), plus I hate it when characters say things like "oh, how tragic that X happened to [person]!" when the character who's saying it could easily have done something about it if they'd wanted to. "She saved the world and she'll never know!" BAH. Plus, why, exactly, is she not allowed to remember? Because she likes shoes too much? I am a little worried that it's a class thing: listening to their accents Chrissie seems to be supposed to be lower class than the rest of the cast. Anyway, that put me right off. I was mollified by the bit where we find out she does remember after all - that was a lovely little scene. If she is not in subsequent episodes I shall tell myself she's just stepped out for a moment but is totally involved with all the adventures that happen between episodes. Yes.
Other than that, am v. squeeful. CLYDE! Ahem. Just had to say that. It was a very well-balanced pair of episodes in character terms, everyone got their moment to shine/be heroic/show off their MAD SKILLZ. So much love for splitting them into Maria-Luke and Sarah-Clyde - I don't think we've seen that before and it was great. I may have cheered a little when Sarah Jane hugged Clyde.
Lots of lovely character bits: "Why do you need another one? You've got me." Oh Luke, that is just exactly the sort of thing he'd say. Sarah Jane being cold with Maria at first, and then apologising. They seemed to be leaning pretty hard on the Maria = mini Sarah Jane thing this week, implying that Maria's going off to America to be another Sarah Jane.
Chrissie gets a paragraph of her own due to being awesome. "You have to believe me!" / "I do." made me flail with yay because it's not how that conversation usually goes. And then rushing off to rescue Maria, like in "Revenge of the Slitheen" when she's yelling at Alan for not knowing where Maria is. And stabbing the Sontaran with her stiletto! ♥ ETA she had great hair this week and also I loved her necklace.
Other things I liked:
- Luke working out the base six thing: actual maths ftw!
- Gaming on Mr Smith: Luke's French accent, Clyde's Star Wars reference, Sarah Jane making an "oh Clyde, you so silly, I ♥ you!" face.
- "I told you not to go into the woods!" / "Did you think we'd listen?" / "No!"
- Sarah taunting the Sontaran with future knowledge.
- I still don't like the Sontaran redesign, but I really liked Kaarg's speeches this time, and the "Sontara-ha!" bit actually worked pretty well.
- Shiny guest characters! Lucy helping Sarah Jane with the science was great.
- Alan talking to Mr Smith! Awww, his embarrassed "I need you!" cracked me up, as did Mr Smith's "...oh, it's you."
- Plus lots of other great lines wot I have forgotten.
In conclusion, I love the Sarah Jane Adventures more than pretty much anything else.

Date: 30 Sep 2008 13:49 (UTC)I agree with you that the business of the amnesia spray was very annoying - I ought to have mentioned that in my review (that's what comes of doing it in a rush before I head out the door. Bad Pers!)

Date: 30 Sep 2008 18:51 (UTC)I agree with pretty much everything you said here, I'm so glad that Clyde is getting an actual look in this series. He's so awesome.
I really just wanted to say this, and I've wanted to say this for aaaages but was just too afraid to; I really, really love your header. There! I said it.

Date: 1 Oct 2008 10:45 (UTC)Clyde is fantastic. My one complaint last year was that his character got a bit sidelined sometimes, I'm so glad they seem to be remedying that this year!
