a weekend in bullet point format

- Sunday was lovely and sunny, so went for a nice long walk around Bristol taking photos for my tardis_view guide, lots of stuff I still want to take pictures of, but here's a sneak peak. Some of them could have been better, but as that would have involved stepping back into oncoming traffic, I thought it probably wasn't worth it.

- On Saturday I went to the huge closing down sale at House of Fraser and came back with six first class stamps and yet another v-neck top for work, sigh. I am not good at shopping.

- Apparently you can fit 49 million cornish pasties into Buckingham Palace. Presumably you would have to take the Queen out first.

- On Sunday evening I made hhertzof's chocolate pepper biscuits, yum yum yum. (I also spilt flour all over the work surface, the floor and indeed myself, due to incompetence.)

- There is this Weetabix advert that has been annoying me. Most of it is ok, in the "Hello, I am Mrs Fake of Faketown, Fakeshire. Allow me and my lovely fake family to tell you about our love of [insert product name here]" mould, but right at the end Mr Fake is all "I love Weetabix, sometimes I have THREE!" and Mrs Fake is all "That's why we get through 48 a week!" and all the fakefamily have a jolly laugh. There are two things wrong with this. One, three Weetabix is not that many, when I used to eat Weetabix I would sometimes have four or even six. Two, a small sum: if a family of five eat two weetabix each for breakfast every morning, how many do they eat a week? Ans. 70! Lots more than 48! So this advert fails in terms of both knowledge of product and arithmetic. It is shoddy work and I am having none of it. No, I don't know why I'm so irritated by this either, but I do feel better now.

- Watched some more Hornblower, so much love! (Kitty Cobham ftw.) Why have I not watched this before? It is right up my alley.

- And now, off to catch up with the internets.

I always thought your Weetabix were what we call Shredded Wheat, but looking it up, it doesn't look like they're quite the same.

No, they're definitely different - we have Shredded Wheat over here too. I've been trying and failing to think of a way to describe Weetabix. The best I can come up with is "sort of like a hobnob, but bigger and crunchy rather than crumbly, and more... breakfasty. So not really like a hobnob at all, then."

I think from the packet, I've got a general idea.

Plus it's likely I can find a packet at my local supermarket either in the organic foods aisle or with the British/Irish imports (they carry a strange assortment from jelly babies to mushy peas).

Mmm, jelly babies and mushy peas... possibly not both at once though. Weetabix is very nice too, as long as it's got lots of sugar on top!

I've been slowly working my way through the biscuit assortment and have discovered I don't like digestives, like rich tea biscuits and adore bourbon creams.

I don't like digestives either, but bourbon biscuits dipped in hot chocolate are absolutely delicious!

I hate the advert too. The entire family seem vacuous. Even the mother has to try and make herself look good by saying that she is training for a marathon, making you think that she is being a good person. And the daughter just bugs the hell outta me!

It's the faulty mathematics that bothers me more than anything else - the family are a bit annoying, but not much more than most advert families.

Oh joy. Having just recently finished watching all the Hornblowers your icon made me ridiculously happy. The Duchess and the Devil is one of my favourites, and yes, that lady seriously pwns her contemporaries. Although, I must admit that the good captain Pellew is and will be my favourite character throughout, in spite of, you know, Eight. Glad hear you're enjoying the films too. I also find myself puzzled as to why on earth I haven't watched this series before now!
