dw: the stolen earth
Saturday, 28 June 2008 19:59Reaction post type thing, split into yays and nays so you can skip one or t'other if you like.
Things I didn't like:
- More of the human race being rubbish. Nought to rioting in 30 seconds! Plus the only thing all our marvellous companions can do alone, with all their skills, all their experience, is... give the Doctor a ring? FAIL.
- Semi-related: I don't think Sarah would have gone to pieces that easily, nor Torchwood for that matter. Yeah, they'd be scared, but they wouldn't just fall apart.
- Were they trying to turn me against Rose with all that "who's Martha" and "I was here first" nonsense? OK, she's annoyed that she can't get through but having her take it out on Martha = automatic fail. I hope they a) meet and b) get on next week.
- How fast can they promote Martha? I love her, but this is getting a little silly.
- Dalek Caan. AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Also various other bits of unintentional hilarity that I would mention if I could remember them. Like Ten 'n' Rose running at each other forever, which would've been fine had it not gone on so long.
- How can the Shadow Proclamation be people? It has articles!
Things I did like:
- Donna was so pretty this episode. And yay for her providing the keys to the mystery.
- Sarah telling Mr Smith off about his startup music. RTD has been reading the internets y/n?
- Dalek Invasion of Earth reference, hurrah. And Pirate Planet too, though I do not think that that is how you spell Calufrax.
- That bit when Martha materialised at home and Francine ran to her... it almost had me in tears, for some reason.
- Rose's huge grin when she saw the Doctor. Melted my cold heart, it did. I liked her chasing off the looters, too.
- Harriet Jones mobilising everyone and kinda sorta proving the Doctor wrong, and that whole bit with the companions planning together. Her speech just before she died was brilliant. And she is more dignified than I'd be - I'd've probably told Jack to punch the Doctor in the face, meself.
- Jack flirting with Sarah and Donna over the video link thingy. ♥
- GWEN! Just in general for I love her. Also Ianto saying snarky things in the background maketh me happy. (PS if Gwen dies I may have to do something crazy. If nothing else it would be a little shabby to kill the two of them off on a different programm altogether.)
- "She wouldn't let me get a webcam. Says they're naughty." HEE.
- Possible unexpected regeneration? That would be nifty. Though I am not convinced they are going to go through with it. Have seen theories based on the way he only seemed to be half-exterminated... We shall see.

Date: 28 Jun 2008 21:02 (UTC)I'm still in a state of incoherent squee regarding this episode, even if there were things I didn't like.

Date: 28 Jun 2008 22:54 (UTC)To some degree, I think they would. Both Jack and Sarah Jane have faced the Daleks before and they know what they're capable of. I wouldn't be surprised if Jack had a morbid fear of Daleks! After all they did for the first time, so it probably wouldn't be too far out to say that he might think they can still kill him for good. Throw in a whole invasion fleet and no sign of the Doctor..
I'm not the biggest Gwen fan, but even I have to admit she was amazing!

Date: 29 Jun 2008 03:11 (UTC)I had trouble with the Doctor's freezing, as well.
The Doctor has met and defeated the Daleks so many times recently. They hardly seem the threat that is portrayed here, and I think the abject terror was played to convince us otherwise.
Poor characterization, and poor writing. Unless, this all turns out to be an alternate universe, which is poor writing of another kind.
*crosses fingers and hopes for better*

Date: 30 Jun 2008 12:32 (UTC)None of these are people who've succeeded by giving into despair, no matter how much they are feeling it.
Harriet Jones and Donna were about the only two who acted in character. Maybe they are nexus people--the exact same in every universe! 8D
