forest of the dead
Saturday, 7 June 2008 22:25Oh dear.
To be fair, I enjoyed quite a lot about this episode, but I really didn't like the ending, so that's left me with a bad impression overall. I wanted River to be rescued - but having her appear in the dream world, all in white, with all her friends there and saved... bit too saccharine for my tastes. And the voiceover about how great the Doctor is, and how everybody lives! (Again.) was annoying. Enough Doctor-mythologising, honestly. Also, I was hoping that River would be a future companion, but when she was talking about travelling with the Doctor, I couldn't help thinking that her Doctor didn't sound like a Doctor I wanted to see. See also, the Vashta Nerada agreeing to a compromise when the Doctor was all "I am TEH DOKTAH!!!11!!" The finger-clicking to open the TARDIS doors was stupid too. He's not magic! More Actual Science, less "the Doctor will solve it all with his POWERS", plz. And I didn't like the bit where the man Donna was married to spots her but can't call to her because of the very thing she liked about him. Oh teh ironing.
*breathes*
Now I've got that off my chest... I liked River punching the Doctor, and the bit with the handcuffs. I worked out about the books=trees thing and that other Dave was dead before the Doctor did, so could enjoy a bit of smugness. Anita having been dead for ages I didn't guess and it was really creepy. The way the dream-world kept skipping to the next bit, like a TV program, was a neat idea, especially since the little girl was watching it on TV herself. The little girl was very good, too. Was very amused by the actors being credited as "Proper Dave" and "Other Dave". And it inspired me to get round to making a Donna icon, which I've been meaning to do for ages (like all my icons, snaggable if anyone wants it!).

I loved this episode dearly, but a bunch of stuff to do with River just... eh, wasn't good.
And god, yeah, the Doctor snapping and the TARDIS doors opening? NO. The Doctor being all "ZOMG, I'M TEH DOKTAR". NOES. DO NOT WANT.
Oh, Ten, and I was starting to like you. D:
but when she was talking about travelling with the Doctor, I couldn't help thinking that her Doctor didn't sound like a Doctor I wanted to see.
Yes, exactly. D:
