I am so fed up of not having a new laptop yet. Probably the fact that I know I should have one within the next fortnight or so is making this worse. And I know it is a stupid and petty thing to be annoyed about... but there it is. Emergency backup laptop is great but slooowww and I want to make iiiiicons! I have a load of Mind Robber caps (major advantage of classic laptop: PowerDVD!) sitting on my hard drive waiting for me to do something with. Yes I would like some cheese with my whine, thank you kindly.

Just after I typed all that an amazon package arrived with the first batch of my replacement DVDs in it, which has effectively stopped me feeling sorry for myself. Hurray! Also the sun is warm, there are set photos from series 2 of the Sarah Jane Adventures (warning! spoilers!) and Big Finish has announced that the Companion Chronicles is going to be an ongoing series, including companions from Doctors 5-8 as well, plus "characters that aren't strictly companions". This makes me a very happy fan (as long as I ignore the somewhat repetitious discussion over at The Forum Formerly Known As Outpost Gallifrey) - more stories! Companiony stories! One starring Sara Kingdom! Joy! Also, if the picture on the link is the cover for the Susan one... pretty. I've not been that impressed with the covers for the latest of the main range releases, but the black bar format seems to work really well for the Companion Chronicles.

I'm hoping they're going to go on doing the Companion Chronicles long enough to have some Martha and Donna ones in the not too distant future (although I suppose that'll depend on where Martha's story goes after S4 given she's in the TW Radio 4 play this summer)...

(Talking of UNIT audios, I have them now - just need to find time to *listen* to them ! I'm going to have a major splurge of non-RTD!Who after S4 finishes airing, I reckon - DVDs and audios...)

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Big Finish getting their hands on new Who. I love their take on UNIT so if they did Martha UNIT stories that would be... *happyflail* Especially if they somehow smushed their UNIT and new UNIT together into one big canon thing. Though that is probably less likely.

Awesome. So, can you shed some light on what's going on with series 2? Because I did't know anything and now I am freaking out. Maria is leaving?!?! WHY?????? Do you have any info on that? I mean I think it's super fabulous that there is finally going to be a South Asian chick in the who-verse who isn't a psycho (Ok, suzie was an AWESOME psycho, but a psycho nonetheless), but I love Maria. I absolutely adore her. This is making me very, very sad.

I don't know why Maria's leaving, but she is in at least one episode of the new series so she will at least get a proper goodbye. It's a shame, since Maria is so great, but at least she won't just disappear like Kelsey did. I'm hoping that the new girl is great too - she's called Rani so I'll be looking out for any suspicious pocketwatches she happens to carry around!

This is really bumming me out. I think the actress that plays Maria is brilliant and her relationship with SJ is what really made me enjoy the show. I'm definitely gonna keep an open mind, and I mean this is the Who-verse, I know that it's all about cast changes. And I hope I enjoy the new girl. But still. It would have been nice to get at least one more season with Maria.

Yeah, it's sad to lose her. I'll miss her relationship with Sarah, it's such a strong foundation for the show. But I'm still trying to be optimistic - they might write her out in such a way that she can come back later, I suppose. And I think I heard a rumour that Yasmin Paige wanted a break since she's doing her GCSEs this year, so maybe she would be open to coming back later on.

Ahhh, well then good for her! That's an excellent reason for taking a break. And I agree with you on leaving it open. She has SUCH potential. I can really see her joining any of the spin-offs. She'd be a great companion for the Doctor, she'd be perfect working for Torchwood or UNIT, she'd even be great just following in SJ's footsteps and going freelance.

So, for real, the one thing I wasn't as keen on in SJA was Maria herself - I just couldn't really get into her. But I looooved Alan so that's what I'm really sad about here.

Really, they kept Clyde and Luke, so I'll watch it. They could get rid of Sarah Jane too, and just give me the Luke'n'Clyde Half-Hour, and I'd watch it. *is ashamed*

She is! Though I've just looked it up and Lis Sladen is only 5'4 (only... that's still two inches taller than me). So maybe she is average and everyone else is short.

Me too! It gives them space to do some interesting things, like using characters who aren't technically companions... I can't wait to find out who they're going to be!
