More Blake's 7! Sarcophagus this time.


At first I was wondering why Avon was suddenly in charge. Was it because he had more studs on his outfit than Tarrant did? Or maybe because he was the only one not wearing grey? Why was everyone so matchy-matchy this week, anyway? Erm, not that I am obsessed with the costumes or anything. But I do feel the need to comment on them quite often. I also wonder why Cally has been doing so well in the costume department recently. Though I must say I do like the fact that some costumes crop up more than once; the characters have a finite number of outfits each and some that they like more than others, which is nice. When I first started watching Blake's 7 I was watching Buffy at the same time and they never wore an outfit more than once in that, even when they were supposed to be penniless.

...where was I? Oh yes. I liked the argument between Avon and Tarrant, especially the fact that Avon was all "pfft, cease your witterings, curly haired one." I also find myself really liking Tarrant, which I wasn't expecting, especially when he gets a bit sarcastic. Fantastic dialogue, as usual, though if I quoted all the bits I liked we'd be here all day.

"[Vila] has a very high IQ and yet he acts like an imbecile." AHA. I had been wondering if this was trufax or just a fanon extrapolation, am glad it was the latter. Actually this episode was good all round for character stuff, was pleased to see the events of Children of Auron getting addressed. And Avon saved the day in a very Avon-y way, too.

This episode had some nice shots, too - Dayna framed in the corridor, for example, the Liberator montage with Dayna singing, very creepy and effective, and the effect of the collapsing egg thing was very good too.

And Vila did magic tricks! Heeee.



It has taken me about half an hour to write all that. Why is the library always covered in students on a Monday afternoon? It is vexing.

Ahahahaa, you should be asking why is Tarrant in control of Liberator, because it makes no god damn sense whatsoever.

Yay for Vila being canonically very smart. It's an often repeated theme, which is nice.

I am actually very not fond of this episode.

Is there a reason you started watching in the middle of S3?

Heh, true, but I've sort of accepted Tarrant being in charge so changing it around threw me! (Though I do think Avon probably prefers being the person making the withering remarks about the person in charge, rather than the person in charge himself, for the most part, so it does sort of make sense to me.)

I liked this episode, but then I like most things :)

I have actually seen S1 and 2 and the rest of S3, but years ago... the friend I was borrowing the videos from moved to London making it a bit trickier! And then I dithered for ages about renting them because really I wanted to be able to keep watching them with my sister, but now I've moved out and she's gone to university, so I've accepted that that's unlikely. All this did make sense in my head!

I do think Avon likes to make fun of the incompetence of others, although it always bothered me at the start of S3 that Tarrant was in control, when all of S2 was spent with Avon going, WHEN BLAKE IS GONE, LIBERATOR WILL BE MINE!!!1

Sarcophagus marks the turn around--Avon's pretty much in charge from there on out.

And it makes sense if you've seen the first two and a half episodes. XD

:D This is based on my vague memories of the beginning of S3, which are mostly just "Dayna with a crossbow! Invasion of kitchen implements from Andromeda" so I may be talking nonsense, but I got the impression that if it had just been Blake leaving, especially with Jenna gone too Avon would certainly have taken control, but since everything was all over the place and there were two new unknown quantities in Tarrant and Dayna, he decided to bide his time and not try anything until he was sure he'd win.

Well, you might be right, but I know I was unsettled. It didn't make sense to me that Avon would be giving control of Liberator so easily to some cocky ex-Federation pilot. So, I was pleased when he started taking control again. Anyway. :)

Have you any interest in fic in the 'verse? Any pairings you're interested in, etc? I could potentially dig for some recs.

I knew Tarrant was going to turn up an take over for a bit beforehand so I'd already got used to the idea, that probably helped!

Okay, let's see. vilakins writes a lot of great stuff. Mostly gen, though with vaguely shippy A/V vibes. Her stories are archived here (http://www.farsight.net.nz/fiction/index.htm) and divided by season, so you should be able to avoid spoilers. I mostly write A/V but I've dabbled in Avon/Jenna and Blake/Jenna and some gen, etc. Sadly, a lot of my stuff is set in S4, but there's still quite a lot early on.

Jane Carnall (http://hjc.akicif.net/storylist.html#Blakes7) is a old school write from the 80s, so some of her fics have old fannish conventions (they tend to call Vila "the thief" and Avon "the tech" and Blake "the rebel" and Jenna "the pilot" etc ad nasueam), but her stories aren't too bad. She's one of the few classic A/V writers I've actually found online. babel also has some good short fics, including several A/Vs, which you can find here (http://babel.livejournal.com/153335.html#cutid1).

And of course there's b7fic and b7friday, the former which has tags and memories you can search and the latter which would love your participation someday. ;)

I am always spoiled for everything - it's a bit annoying but I've got used to it. I always just click on one link too many. Also, the BBC showed the very very end of Blake's 7 in a s1 Doctor Who Confidential, which didn't help!

Ahahaa augh, spoilers! Well then, I guess you can read anything you like, although some of the S4 stuff will still make more sense after you've seen the series, naturally. Hope you enjoy them! ♥
