"It's silly."
Saturday, 6 June 2009 11:47I finished watching Fury from the Deep last night. A few brief thoughts on it, mostly about Victoria:
- There was a foam fight and the BBC burned it? FORSHAME.
- It is always unsettling when you are watching a recon and it suddenly starts to move. Not least because chances are what's coming up was Too Scary For Australia.
- Yay, sonic screwdriver! Being used as an actual screwdriver, and then being rendered totally unnecessary by Victoria's lock picking skills. Oh, Victoria. Don't leave!
- I did think her departure was nicely handled, though. She had some lovely scenes with Jamie, especially that last one. I loved how considerate the Doctor was of her feelings and choices, and how he hid how upset he really was at her departure. "I was fond of her too, you know, Jamie." It was a good choice to save half of the last episode for the winding down scenes, though seeing the Doctor sitting around eating a celebratory tea was a bit strange - he's usually sloped off by that point!
- Oh, that last shot of her on the beach, all forlorn. :( I will miss her.
- I keep hearing Victoria's departure referred to as an adoption, and I must admit I don't see that. She's just staying with the Harrises while she gets her bearings and decides what she's going to do next, surely? I want to know what happened to her after that. Has anyone seen/read Downtime? Is it worth tracking down?
