Signs I am really not prepared for Weather: surveying my footwear this morning, I decided that actually my ankle boots with their inch or two of heel probably had the best grip of everything I owned. (My wellies are pretty much novelty only, I've discovered, and my trainers are a bit rubbish.) Nearly fell over many times; managed to maintain verticality if not dignity. So at lunchtime I went out and bought some new walking boots - I already have a pair, but they are in Cheltenham. Am justifying Vast Expense to myself on the grounds that a) am unlikely to grow out of them and it's not like they'll go out of fashion, not being in fashion to start with and b) I need them in Cheltenham fairly often and boots are annoying to lug back and forwards all the time.

In the non-footwear department, I watched the last part of The Myth-Makers last night. Maybe I was just tired from working late, but it almost had me in tears towards the end. Oh Vicki! Rushing around, trying to make sure everyone she cared about was safe - her desparation when she was trying to explain everything to the Doctor was very affecting. Her departure was rather abrupt (at one point I wasn't sure that she hadn't gone back into the TARDIS, but that would probably be clearer if we still had the picture), but she did get some nice scenes with Troilus. I particularly liked this exchange:

TROILUS: Well, between you and me, I... I don't honestly enjoy killing at all. But, I love adventure.

VICKI: Yes. I know what you mean.

The audio Frostfire was pretty gloomy about Vicki's life after leaving the Doctor, but I think it was probably better than that audio made it out to be. I loved her attitude at the end, her hope for the future. Her sibling-like relationship with Steven was lovely, too, and I was very sad they didn't get to say goodbye properly.

This was the first recon where I've really really wished the episode wasn't lost. Of course, I would love to have all the missing episodes back, but this one in particular I think would be fantastic. I really liked the comedy bits (we'll handwave the fact that they probably wouldn't have been quite so jolly so soon after Hector's death) and the shift in the last part to something much more serious was very effective: it might seem like fun and games, but actually both characters we like and those we don't end up equally dead.
