Spaceships and magic and dragons
Thursday, 9 October 2008 13:21- I was reading SFX this morning over breakfast and they had an article on the new Star Trek film. They had little quotes from lots of the blokes about their characters, how they were going to play them etc. From Zoe Saldana (Uhura) they picked a quote on the length of her skirt. FAIL! (Edited to clarify that this is directed at SFX and not Zoe Saldana, who was Anamaria in PotC and is therefore awesome.) This train of thought led me to think about how cool it would have been if they'd swapped the genders of some of the characters (though as I think it's supposed to be in the same universe rather than a straight remake, it might not have worked); this is probably terribly sacreligious but I can't help thinking how great a female Scotty would be.
- On a vaguely related note, Helen Mirren to star in a film version of 'The Tempest' playing a female version of Prospero. YES PLEASE. I can imagine her as Prospera very easily, I think this might be rather good.
- I am reading Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik at the moment. I'm enjoying it rather a lot but since it's "Patrick O'Brien, but with dragons!" this isn't really a suprise. I love how well the dragon-y bits are integrated into the real historical stuff, plus it is incredibly absorbing. I was so involved in it this lunchtime that I didn't realise what time it was until I heard Great George chiming the hour and suddenly realised I should be back at the counter. Oops.
