I saw Dr Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog and I did like a lot of things about it (THE SONGS! Bad Horse! Oodles of great lines!) but oh, Penny. I was rolling my eyes at her a bit for being yet another sweet innocent girl-woman, but I liked her and I was hoping she would get more interesting, only to have her killed off in order to further Horrible's storyline. Sigh. Joss Whedon isn't perfect in the feminism department but he's usually better than this.

Last night I watched the first four episodes of Survivors, which was absolutely brilliant. It's slow paced compared with modern stuff, but that doesn't mean it drags, it's tense and compelling, especially the very first episode. The scenes where Abby is walking around her house and we just know that any minute she's going to find her husband's body are very good - I gasped out loud when the camera pans up and we see it in the mirror. The contrast between David's confident assessment over dinner about their chances and the actuality is very striking. A few random thoughts:

- "Corn Dolly" in particular emphasis how tenuous everything is. Every time they think they can see the path ahead clearly, another setback appears, something that in the pre-virus world might not even have been a problem, like running out of petrol.

- Shallow point: it may be the 70s but some of the clothes are fantastic, especially Jenny's.

- I'd heard about the "could you make a candle from scratch?" scene, but it was still incredibly effective. I love Abby's version of it later, too.

- Was v. pleased to hear on the commentary that Cheltenham is doubling for London in one of the scenes. :)

- Jenny and Abby are such fantastic characters, Greg too.

- So I'm really looking forward to the remake - I think it has the potential to be really fantastic. Some things I don't entirely see the point of remaking but I reckon this has potential to be really interesting. I wonder if the BBC will keep the same storyline? I assume they'll mix things around a bit to keep us on our toes.

Now I am watching Green Wing, it is utterly demented and I luff it. I do have to pretend I don't know how it ends though.
