a lovely fannish meme
Thursday, 17 April 2008 18:291. Five stories you wish someone would write, any fandom.
i. An EPIC AU in which the new series didn't happen, or happened differently. In it Gwen moves to London to work for UNIT audio era UNIT (Rhys grumbles but eventually goes with her) and ends up meeting Rose during the Auton invasion from "Rose"; impressed, she recruits her. By a Staggering Coincidence, Mickey's garage has been doing some work for Rhys's lorry company and they end up becoming friends. Also Ianto works for UNIT too and he and Gwen are BFF because that makes me happy. Together they
ii. Post-"Interference" fic - what Sarah Jane and Sam did next.
iii. After "Wolfsbane" and all the books I haven't read yet, Eight gets his memory back, remembers who Harry is and that he's not dead and goes back for him. Then they have adventures.
iv. An AU where Victoria decides not to leave in Fury from the Deep, making the season 6 TARDIS team Two, Jamie, Victoria and Zoe.
v. And one Supernatural one: Bela rocks up at Ellen's bar. (Before it's destroyed, obv.) Bonus points for Dean/Ellen. Yes I know it's a bit weird since I think she slept with his father but... *handwaves* I still ship them.
2. The geekiest fannish thing you've ever done.
One time I knitted a TARDIS (and a Zoe and a Tosh. One day I shall make more people). I also made a Blake's 7 t-shirt which is now sadly lost. Also not only do I own a copy of Reading the Vampire Slayer, I own both editions (and may have made an embarrassing noise of glee when I found the second one for £1.50 in the Ottakar's sale).
3. Your first fandom, and how you feel it's influenced your current fannish life/projects.
Depends how you define fandom, really - I've been making up stories in my head about my favourite TV programs since forever (oh, the epic Animals of Farthing Wood stories I had in my head back in the day), but it was probably Star Trek that led me to Teh Internets and fandom and such, through the late lamented BBC Cult website. Dr Who is the first fandom I've really participated in, though. Hmmm. I think Star Trek made me love fandoms where the canon gets bigger the more you learn about it - more characters, more mythology, more worlds to play in, because I saw what potential it opened up for fannish endeavours.
4. Give me three AUs for any of your current fandoms, and tell me why they would be awesome.
Well, I've listed two already in the first question, so more on them:
The New Series one cunningly allows me to hang on to all the bits that I love about it whilst dumping the bits I don't like by removing the Doctor - which handily allows me to keep Scream of the Shalka, which I am rather fond of, particularly the book version. Also, I really would like to see Rose as Gwen's protegé, a bit like when Gwen befriends the 1930s girl in "Out of Time". I think it would bring out the best in both characters and be rather fun.
The Victoria one is also about character interaction - I'd love to see how Victoria and Zoe would react to one another. I don't think they'd get on at first - Zoe's would shock Victoria and Victoria would frustrate Zoe - but gradually they'd grow to be friends and then they'd be unstoppable.
One more AU: Sara Kingdom survives The Daleks' Master Plan. It would be awesome because she is awesome.
5. Your favourite Doctor Who ship, and why.
This is a bit tricky as I am a Filthy Multishipper. But in the end I have to say Eight/Fitz, for many reasons. Partly it is because I am still discovering them (am spoiled like woah for the whole book range, but have only read up to Endgame) so they are my "current" ship, but also because they are so great together. Right from the start they have this wonderful dynamic; there's theis bit in The Taint where they're in the TARDIS and Eight absent mindedly starts playing his recorder, Fitz makes a face of pain and takes it away from him and plays something better, then when Eight is going off to do some plot, he tells Fitz very seriously: "If I don't come back... there's a metronome in the TARDIS, your rhythm was rubbish." Affectionate mockery in the face of possible death! LOVE. And in Frontier Worlds there's this bit where the Doctor falls from a Great Height and lands on a cable car, climbs inside and finds Fitz; Firtz is obviously concerned about him but what he actually says is "If you say anything about dropping in, I'll throw you back out again." And then the Doctor asks him if he's eating properly. I also love the fact that their relationship changes and grows as time goes on, it's lovely to read. Their rapport is fantastic: that bit in Coldheart where they do tea porn at each other for a bit and Compassion shouts at them for getting off topic! When we meet Fitz he's drifting but travelling with the Doctor allows him to come into his own a bit, and in return he's there to look after the Doctor (the end of The Ancestor Cell is a good example). Fitz is so comfortable with the Doctor (see City of the Dead, the first EDA I read, good choice, self) and I am madly looking forward to seeing how their relationship changes with the whole amnesia thing. Also in City of the Dead, Anji asks Fitz why he stays with the Doctor and his answer goes on for pages. Squee! And when Fitz makes an inappropriate joke and the Doctor gives him a look of Deep Sorrow! I adore those bits. Oh, Fear Itself is so shippy: Fitz is fretting about whether the Doctor is still his best friend is he doesn't remember that friendship, and they have a conversation about it and the Doctor says that even though zooming around in the TARDIS saving the day and rescuing people is very familiar, there's only one thing in his life that makes him sure it's his life, and he clearly means his relationship with Fitz and it just means so much to both of them and yay.
...I am a lot crazier about that ship than I realised.
