So I got back to my flat last night after a busy day at work and found that the light in my room wouldn't switch on. "Huh," thought I, "the bulb must have gone." I tried the light in the hall, also no dice. "Curses," thought I, "I don't know where the circuit breaker is. Hang on, what's that mark on my bed? Why is it damp? Why is there a dripping noise? ...oh. Oh, dear." The water had been off all morning and the people upstairs must have left a tap dripping or something, so that when the water came back om it knocked the tap on full. By the time I got back it must have been on for at least four hours. Ohnoes! There was a lot of flailing at the letting agents on my part (who were very helpful apart from when they said things like "there's a gap of about this much [hands about a foot and a half apart] between your ceiling and upstairs's floor, so the water in there is probably at least this deep [hands about six inches apart].") Eventually the upstairs people got home and turned the water off, and gave us a lift to flatmate Rhiannon's boyfriend Simon's flat where we stayed last night. The letting agents sent round someone who turned off our electricity and told us that the damage was mostly confined to my room (bah) but that it looked like the ceiling wasn't going to cave in (yay!).

As a result I am out of my flat for a bit - don't know how long yet, am going round now to try and find out (and see how bad it is...). From what I could see last night it looks like the water mostly came through in the centre and my stuff is mostly round the sides so hopefully it will not be too bad. Then I shall go and comfort myself with second hand book shopping. Yay! So if I am more than usually useless and uncommunicative this is why.

Oh no!! That is really bad.. But hopefully not too mmuch of your stuff has been ruined.. And the letting agents were helpful.. Good luck sorting it all out. I'm moving into a flat on st george's road with Livvy this thursday! I hope it will be a bit drier (dryer? more dry? less wet?) than your flat at the moment.. You will have to come see it (and me) once I have bought furniture and moved my stuff into it!

Well that blows. I got my stuff destroyed twice by upstairs' leaking something as a student, so you have my every sympathy. If there's anything we can do, just say.
