I have a new layout! I spent much time beating my head against the desk trying to make one myself, but then I found out that more talented people have made ones for fules like me to use. This one is from [livejournal.com profile] refuted. I made the banner myself though. It is very companiony because that is the sort of thing I like. The quote is from the EDA Autumn Mist. Here is the full thing (with thanks to my parents who typed it up and emailed it to me as my copy is not with me):

"[The Doctor] tapped his chest. 'There's a little part of all my friends in here. They're always with me; and in the same way, I imagine, I'm always with them.' He hesitated, as if searching for the right words, then leaned in close to her ear. 'My path often crosses those that wander from the light, and I find myself in places where shadows cast themselves freely. Others walk those paths, too, but only from one place to another. No matter how many get to where they're going, there will always be someone else who needs a fellow traveller on the road through the shadows. And it's a road that winds and will never end.'"

This quote is probably my favourite summation of what the Doctor and his companions mean to each other. I also like the way the Doctor's feelings aren't quite linear - he isn't thinking in terms of "people who have left him" because they're still with him, they're a part of his experiences and memories and therefore a part of what makes him the Doctor, and vice versa. Unless he has got amnesia and forgotten them again.

Also I just love the companions, all of them, even the ones that irritate me a bit. Sam. The idea of them, the fact that there's all these diverse people who have this one thing in common - whatever quality it is that draws them to the Doctor and he to them. The way they grow and change and become stronger through their adventures, and then go off and have fantastic lives (apart from the ones who die, of course). And most of them are pretty awesome individually too. There's a whole world of potential in them - we only see them for such a relatively short period in their lives.

When it comes down to it, although I'm fond of the Doctor, I'm a fan for the companions.
