So I saw this yesterday (screenselect did indeed fail to send it on Wednesday and I may have had a small tantrum. But then I watched The End of the World instead and all was better) and here are some thoughts:

- I like Colin Baker. I can't put my finger on what it is about him that I like, though. Yes his costume is insanely bright but there have been worse crimes against fashion (I have been reading a lot of Go Fug Yourself recently, it has given me marvellous perspective) and the world can always do with more colour. The alienness was good, those little moments when his reactions seemed a little off from what we would consider normal/human. This must be harder to do well than it seems as mostly stuff I watch tends to go for the short-cut of have characters speak in a very measured way without using contractions (Stargate I'm looking at you).

- Peri on the other hand is sooo annoying! I did try and like her but she was so screechy and whiny and she kept wanting to go back, how are we supposed to have adventures if you keep hiding in the TARDIS?

- Was I seeing things or did the Doctor keep his pocket watch on one of those stretchy spirally no-tie shoelaces? I used to have some of those in a fetching shade of neon orange.

- I like the old Daleks better than the new ones. It is not so much the redesign as the cgi - the old ones look more solid and seem more real because you know they are. While I am on the subject of Daleks I think it was a mistake to make one all conflicted in Dalek. The scary thing about Daleks is their implacability; you can't reason with them, persuade them, argue with them etc and if they shoot you you are dead. The angsty Dalek worked in terms of that episode I suppose but I still think it was a mistake. Harrumph.
