I read some comics!
Ms Marvel #1: LOVE. I adore Kamala already and the whole issue set so much up really deftly. The art is so great, full of delightful, playful background detail. ♥ I especially liked how Wilson is handling Kamala's identity as a Pakistani-American teenager: she clearly wants to fit in and be like her (white) friends, as teenagers do, but she doesn't want to BE white, and she hasn't quite developed her thinking to the point where she knows what she DOES want: for her life to be considered as normal as anyone else's. She wants to be "less complicated", but she doesn't want the price of that to be joining in when people like Zoe laugh at her family. ♥ Kamala ♥
Black Widow #3: This comic is so good, to the point where I don't actually have much to say about it because it all just WORKS. The art and the story work beautifully together: so cool and elegant!
Loki: Agent of Asgard #1: I really loved this! I wasn't going to get it, because I'm not particularly a Loki fan, but then the preview looked fun and Forbidden Planet had a really pretty variant cover, so I bought it and I'm really glad I did. It's hilarious, for a start, which is forever the shortcut to my heart, but I also really like the themes it's setting up: about how stories can be powerful, and sometimes that means magic, and sometimes that means being trapped in them.
X-Men #10.Now: This comic is not working for me as much as it was in the first few issues. I mean, it's fine, it's a perfectly decent comic, and I'm pleased that most of the characters in it are women and a lot of them aren't white, but... I think getting stuck in a crossover early on, and then losing a couple of characters to external events, really killed its momentum. And it didn't help that this issue was billed as a new reader jumping on point and thus was rather exposition heavy. (It is also very likely that all the reports of Brian Wood sexually harassing women has hurt my love for his comics. :/) I think I would like it more if I read it in trades, because reading it monthly is making the plot feel really slow and drawn out, so I am probably going to start doing that after #12.
Mighty Avengers #6: I liked this fine but it didn't make me flaily with love or anything, so trade-waiting it is.
She-Hulk #1: Solid but not amazing; I'm interested enough in Jen and the premise of the comic to keep reading, but I'm not completely sold yet. It definitely had some fun moments, but it hasn't entirely sparked for me yet, and I'm also not sure whether or not I like the art yet...
