Tuesday, 9 October 2007 18:02Here are some thoughts about the Sarah Jane Adventures
OH SJA I LOVE IT.
Bea and Sarah and Maria, three generations of alien investigating women together, wonderful. It was great that the show acknowledged that magically curing Bea's Alzheimers would be a cheat, but giving her the chance to hear Edgar's voice again was lovely.
YETI! yays.
Maria's mum is turning into more of a character and less of a carboard cut out, which is good (though I do giggle at her awfulness still). Liked the bit in the Slitheen one where she's yelling at Alan, because she was right: the sun had gone out, there was panic in the streets, he should at least be worried that he didn't know where Maria was. I also love the fact that Maria and her mum obviously love each other very much, despite all Chrissie's faults.
Oh, the bit where Maria was shouting at Sarah and Sarah looked so hurt, but comforted her anyway because she knew she didn't really mean it! And at the end, when I was all ready to roll my eyes at Sarah being all, "woe, I has no Doctor" but instead she said "yay I has a Maria!", it was fantastic.
Was a bit "hmmm" at Maria apologising for yelling at Alan at the end, partly because it's a cliché but also because I didn't really like the implied message that if you are upset about your parents' divorce, don't shout at them because they will die of being stone and it will be YOUR FAULT.
Clyde and Luke are such an adorable team! Out of the corner of my eye I also saw Clyde squeezing Maria's shoulder as they separated from their group hug, another lovely moment. And I am liking the way Sarah treats the children like small adults she is friends with. Co-conspirators, a bit. Basically, the thing is, I love all the characters and I want to see them interacting with each other in different combinations, like last week when Alan was talking to Clyde and Luke and making Nun Puns. (Puns are also always a guaranteed win with me. "A problem like Maria," indeed.) The fighting of aliens and such is really just a lovely bonus type thing.
Sarah Jane climbing the wall was entirely awesome for reasons I don't think I can articulate. Probably it is having to do with the yayness of having the lead character of a children's action adventure show being an older woman. Also her outfit was pretty great this week. I wants it, yes. (Maybe not the waistcoat.)
Next week's trailer: I fear it may be all "running around and shooting things is just for BOYS, yes" which would be fail. (I am not keen on laserquesty things meself but this is due to my inherent lameness at it and that the only time I played it there was PAIN.) Also it reminded me a wee bit of the Demon Headmaster, though I don't know why. I hope I shall be pleasantly surprised.
This is the end of my thoughts. (I think there were more but I forgot them.) My brain is now empty.

Date: 10 Oct 2007 01:41 (UTC)I do love that Maria was all emo and "sorry, sorry, sorry!" because that's a normal reaction...and I love Alan brushing it off as "just a tiff" because it's not a big deal (you know, unless that's the last conversation before someone dies)...I love that he reassured her that it wasn't a big thing.
I LOVES me my Sarah Jane and my show and the cuteness.
