So Steph is returning to the DCU. That is a thing that is happening unless they swap her out for Babs at the last moment again. And I don't know how to react. I mean, she's my favourite, hands down, but... the DCnU is just such an unappealing universe to me. And a lot of that is because of how broken the Batfamily is, which obviously impacts on Steph a LOT. And some more is the "no-one can be happy, hope is not allowed" tone, which is basically the opposite of what I liked about Steph's Batgirl run. And even more is the fact that so many characters are still missing: CASS, Oracle, Helena B., Dinah Laurel Lance, Zinda, Renee (who technically still exists, at least), and so on. I really love Steph's preboot relationships with Damian, Oracle and Cass, and it's not looking likely that we'll get to have any of that. (And also Tim Drake is a completely different character now, so who knows how that'll work out.) ARGH I DON'T KNOW. Also I just basically don't trust DC to do good things anymore, is what it comes down to.

(I'm also really frustrated that we went through all that rigmarole with her (and Cass) being forbidden to appear in Smallville and Li'l Gotham, and all those writers being told they couldn't use her because reasons (I do not believe that DC was planning this all along, and even if they were, that still doesn't explain why she was banned from out of continuity stuff), all for... what?)

BASICALLY IT IS PAST MY BEDTIME AND I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS. D:

I am so torn. I also don't believe that they were planning on bringing her back ~all along~, which makes me think that they have some terrible storyline in mind. But James Tynion, who seems to be going to be her primary writer, is such an adorable dork online that I want to trust him to go good places. He hasn't been writing long enough for me to be sure that he'll do that, though. SIGH.

*nods* I more or less trust Tynion (and Snyder) to have good intentions, at least, but on the other hand... so much precedent of terrible things happening to Steph and in the DCnU!

I don't know that it'll be a good storyline, but Snyder doesn't seem like enough of a jerk that he'd announce her return while talking about how the loyalty and tenacity of fans was an inspiration, if they were planning some sort of War Games thing (which if I recall, at least one writer quit over at that time?).

I have no easy answers for you though. So I shall instead offer hugs and soothing virtual tea as you make your decision.

Yeah, Snyder seems like a good guy, I have faith that he doesn't have or know about any plans to kill her off or make her evil or anything, so there's that. (Though apparently in the intro to the Dan Didio panel War Games was referenced as a success, and it's just been brought back into print, which is a little worrying!) Mostly I'm just hoping that this means Steph and Cass will be able to make their way out of waffle limbo and into Li'l Gotham, because that's my favourite thing that DC is currently doing. :D

Ahhh this is real life? That makes me really excited, even if Steph will fit into the DCnU a little differently than she did the pre-Flashpoint universe. I'd love to see her and Harper Row meet up.

Have they mentioned Renee somewhere? I haven't seen her anywhere, and I was thinking about her today because Harvey Bullock was in the comic I was reading and she was not.

I am confused though because I found an article about Batman Eternal and they were saying it's going to be a weekly, so I'm like does that mean it'll be digital first or are they seriously going to print one every week? And how does Scott Snyder have time for this?

I want to be excited, but I am just so unhappy about so much of the DCnU, even a DCnU with Steph in it. :/ Though yes, her and Harper meeting up would be cool!

I think there was a picture of Renee on the wall in a panel in an early issue of Batwoman? I still haven't actually read any of Batwoman, though, so I might be wrong! (ETA aha, here it is!)

There're doing alternating creators on Batman Eternal (all men so far, of course), like they did with 52. I'm assuming it'll be print, but I don't know!
