"i have a powerful thirst"
Monday, 15 April 2013 11:21Comics! Two grumpy links, one (mostly) happy review, some flailing. All Marvel, all the time!
- Apparently Wolverine: Origins was enough of a failure to kill a proposed Kitty Pryde film... but not enough to kill another Wolverine film. I SEE.
- I am somewhat staggered by a) how obviously sexist these Marvel t-shirts are and b) the fact that when I looked the comments seemed to be mostly "this isn't sexist at all because REASONS". No, they're definitely sexist.
- Fearless Defenders #3: To get it out of the way first, I wasn't terribly keen on Caroline Le Fay's backstory: "abused child who grows up to be evil" is a bit clichéd and insulting. :/ But other than that, I still really love this comic. Annabelle's reaction to Val telling her that shieldmaiden is a good look for her was adorable, as was Misty rolling her eyes at it. The art seemed to have fewer "oh dear" moments this issue too, Val's boob saucers aside. And those I can kind of deal with because I sort of have to, it being her costume. I don't like it, but I can go "this is not great" and move on, unless they're being drawn in a really obviously icky way. ANYWAY. I liked seeing Misty being sort of quietly protective of Annabelle, pointing out a way she could help that would keep her out of the fighting. ♥ Hippolyta is a great addition to the team: her bloodthirsty glee at getting to do some fightin' was hilarious. This is just such a FUN book. I am slightly worried about the #6 solicit, which says someone's going to die, though, because Annabelle's the obvious candidate. But on the other hand, at least two other characters have already spent some time being dead, and one was resurrected specifically for this comic, so maybe it'll be ok. Also maybe "obvious candidate" also means "TOO obvious". BE OK, ANNABELLE. *crosses fingers* Plus #6 has BLACK WIDOW so points for that.
- All I have to say about Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (am up to 1x19) is ALL THE WOMEN ARE SO AWESOME, WHY AREN'T THEY IN IT MORE? My heart belongs to Jan, with her sheer enthusiasm for superheroing, but all the others are aces too. I wish they had dropped Ant Man, who is tedious and keeps patronising Jan, in favour of one of the women ones. I also really like T'Challa; I hadn't encountered him before at all! ...the problem with exploring the Marvelverse is that my list of characters whose absence from the Avengers film I consider a PERSONAL SLIGHT is getting somewhat out of control. LOOK AT ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO COULD BE IN YOUR FILMS, MARVEL. JUST LOOK AT THEM.

Date: 16 Apr 2013 08:55 (UTC)I would LOVE a Black Widow film so much! Now would be the perfect time for one, and yet... still nothing.
