Tuesday, 4 September 2007 09:06News from t'BBC about the future of Dr Who.
First off, yay for definitely having Who on the telly until 2010. However! I was rather hoping for a new Doctor and showrunner after next year and that's definitely not happening. (And I hope RTD doesn't end up writing all three specials in 2009 because that's the kind of thing that will make me fall into the Slough of Despond.) I don't like Ten, and it's because of the writing, because my criticisms can apply to Nine too. I don't want a Doctor who abandons a companion because he's scared, or one who treats two companions so badly they feel they have to leave. I don't want a Doctor who only takes the best, either. I want a Doctor who takes the people he likes, the people who need him, and sees the best in them. I want a Doctor whose companions become better people for travelling with him. And this is not what I'm getting.
No announcement about companions for the specials. I hope it is not Rose or more one-episode companions. I hope there is more than one of them. But really I am not feeling enough enthusiasm to speculate. Argh, just when I was beginning to be interested again.
Oh well. At least I've still got lots of old series stuff to play with.
