comics, bro
Tuesday, 12 March 2013 17:48Captain Marvel #10: I read this a while ago! YAY WENDY IS BACK. Gah, this was just a great issue. (Not only because I am always pro superheroines having tiny fangirls.) Filipe Andrade's art is growing on me - it's very dynamic, and the colours (by Jordie Bellaire) are gorgeous - though I am still a little weirded out by how bendy and stretchy everyone is. Looking forward to the next one!
Hawkeye #8: I was a leetle disappointed with this one: I'd been hoping for a bigger role for Natasha, Bobbi and Jess, and also Clint was pretty terrible in it. (I didn't mind that last one as much, because I'm not reading this out of any particular interest in him.) But Kate's appearance was great, if all too brief.
Young Avengers #1 and #2: I went back and forth on whether or not to buy this series for ages, but eventually succumbed. I really liked these issues! The cold open for #1 (which I'd already seen) was really great. I thought the argument between Billy and Teddu was resolved a bit too quickly, but I do really like them together and I don't particularly want to see them having relationship drama, so I was ok with that. The first issue did feel pretty slight, overall: I kept mentally comparing it to things like the Smallville comic, which felt much longer (in a good way!) than it actually was. But other than that, it was pretty great, and I am looking forward to seeing more of Miss America. The art is a bit slicker than I'd like, but it's pretty good, and I loved the sequence from #2 with Loki breaking Billy and Teddy out of their panel prisons, that was fun.
Li'l Gotham #7: Li'l Gotham remains the BEST UNIVERSE, because it has an Oracle. YES. Also, "no more pets, Damian," and the running joke about the Batmobile having a back seat, and blue!Nightwing and JOYOUSNESS.
A random selection of the free Marvel issues I grabbed from Comixology yesterday actually made it to my account! (They've taken the promo down now, because the servers'll no take it, but you can sign up here to be sent updates about it.) I went for a mix of stuff that looked interesting and stuff I already know I like, for rereading/iconning purposes (HI NEXTWAVE) and have read a few things, the best so far being the A-Babies vs X-Babies one shot, because ADORABLE. I found Baby Rogue and Baby Psylocke particularly pleasing. And Baby Natasha. ♥
And tomorrow there'll be Fearless Defenders #2! I really hope it's good, given how much I liked and went on about #1...
