the twin dilemma, also leverage
Tuesday, 28 June 2011 12:05- I watched "The Twin Dilemma"! ...oh dear. There is just no getting around the fact that it was not very good, is there? A few thoughts:
- I also watched the new episode of Leverage! As much as I love Parker/Hardison, I was a little worried that between it being canon and the new developments on the Sophie/Nate front, all the other team relationships would get short shrift. But based on this episode, I needn't worry too much, as it was indeed awesome for my OT3. PARKER AND ELIOT ARE HARDISON'S PEEPS. I really loved the Parker/Eliot scene, and it was great that the day was saved because of both Eliot's survival instinct and Parker's attempts to do the right thing. ♥ ALSO THE HUGS. SO MUCH LOVE FOR THE HUGS. And Parker making her peace with her not-normalness, again. And "Are there avalanches on skyscrapers?"/"No. But that would be so cool.", and the montage of Hardison jumping off buildings, badly. :D
In non-OT3 related things, I quite liked that it wasn't a convoluted con for once (despite Sophie's best efforts, ♥), that was a nice change of pace. And I laughed tremendously at the whole "Let's go steal a mountain."/"Again." sequence. Though, they really were hitting the "Nate is not a nice guy" angle quite hard this episode, weren't they? I approve - I find I like Nate much more when the show acknowledges that he's not actually that great.
- I found the Six-Peri dynamic so frustrating, because I LOVE affectionate bickering, and this was not really that. Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant were obviously doing their best with it, but the script was not helping. Who on earth thought it would be a good idea to start things off by having Six try and kill Peri? Ack.
- That being said, Six's smug expression when he pronounced Peri's outfit "yuck!" made me laugh out loud. ♥ (I actually quite liked her outfit! The boots were great and I loved the way she wore the blanket as a poncho.)
- About Time's fourth thing to notice about "The Twin Dilemma": "there does not appear to be an actual dilemma in this story". OH SNAP.

Date: 28 Jun 2011 11:32 (UTC)Yeah, the Twin Dilemma - even in novelised form, it isn't that brilliant!
(By the way, I'm sorry I've yet to give you that list of promised Magnus-doing-science scenes - my brain has been stolen by my Sanctuary OC and um, yes - I've yet to compile it!)

Date: 28 Jun 2011 11:50 (UTC)No worries! I'm still very much in the planning stages, so not in any hurry. :) (And it's no problem if you don't have a chance to get round to it!)

Date: 28 Jun 2011 15:15 (UTC)I will do it eventually - please feel to poke me if I haven't by the time you get towards the end of the planning stages, and I will endeavour to wrest control of my brain from the plot bunnies!

Date: 28 Jun 2011 14:41 (UTC)I really can't stand the early Six/Peri relationship - it feels like it takes forever to go from "these people hate each other" to "affectionate bickering". Every time I feel like I want to watch a Six story, I remember it'll probably be full of endless scenes of the pair arguing in the console room and get put off. Thank god for Big Finish.
I adore Revelation of the Daleks, though - I'm excited to see what you think of that when you get there.

I've actually seen Revelation already - about five years ago, though, so I'm looking forward to seeing if my opinion of it has changed in the intervening time.

Date: 29 Jun 2011 15:26 (UTC)I'm looking forward to it! I really love their dynamic in the audios, but I can't remember very much of what it's like in their later episodes, even though I've seen a fair few of them.

Date: 29 Jun 2011 15:28 (UTC)*nods* Me too. I can see Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant trying to make it work, but sometimes it's a bit of a lost cause.
But, like you, I laughed at the Doctor's "Yuck!" reaction upon seeing Peri's outfit.
His expression was just so perfect! ♥
