"Did your family buy this planet from Enid Blyton?"
Wednesday, 1 June 2011 17:38- I went to Spain to visit my sister and her boyfriend! It was excellent. We went sightseeing on Friday, climbed a hill on Saturday and went to the beach on Sunday. Here are some pictures!
- Over the weekend I read The Crimson Petal And The White, and spent most of my reading time trying to decide whether I liked it or not. And then I got to the end and discovered that I entirely didn't. AUTHORS. FINISH YOUR BOOKS PROPERLY. I don't need everyone's complete future life laid out, but some sort of resolution to major ongoing plot threads/developments would be nice. >:(
- On the train back to Barcelona (where I was flying from) I listened to the latest Big Finish release, "Kiss of Death". I was a bit worried about it at first as I feared the whole "childhood sweetheart" element might hit my embarrassment squick (and also I was judging it a little because it fits into the general pattern whereby if characters get romances in spin-offs/adaptations that they didn't have in the original, it is (almost?) always heterosexual romance, sigh), but I did enjoy it in the end. I called Deela being a double agent and probably dying pretty much from her first appearance, but I didn't see the twist about what the "treasure" actually was coming, and I rather liked it.
- I got back to Bristol at about 5pm on Monday and did the following things: 1) checked my email 2) made a cup of tea and 3) watched "The Almost People". I don't really have anything to say about the big thing at the end apart from WHAT IS GOING ON and MOFFAT WHAT IS HAPPENING IN YOUR BRAIN and so forth, so I will skip that and have thoughts about the rest of the episode.

- I am slightly torn in that I really liked where the episode ended up but was less keen on some of the stuff it did along the way. All the "why why why" stuff, the wall o' eyes and the "who are the REAL monsters?" bits were a little heavy handed, and it was awfully convenient that they didn't end up with two of anyone. But I was really pleased at the way the gangers and the originals ended up working together, not because it was that or die, but because they all sort of came to their senses eventually.
- TWO ELEVENTIES. There was nothing about any of that that I didn't like. Ganger!Eleven channeling past Doctors! The way original!Eleven's reaction was basically "hey it is me! I am awesome! Hurray!"! The shoe-swapping trick! "Do we say "yowsa"?"! My face was entirely happy.
- "Rory Pond! RORANICUS PONDICUS!" :DDDDDD
- Amy was very firm about ganger!Eleven not being the same as original!Eleven - I have been wondering if that had anything to do with her subconsciously knowing that she was a ganger too?
- RORY BRINGING OUT THE BIG GUNS.
- Hey, there's a whole other character that I didn't notice at all last week! Whoops.
- MIRANDA. She was (...they were) fantastic, I loved how deadpan they were about everything, and how they came round to each other in the end. Like many people I am choosing to believe that ganger!Miranda and ganger!Eleventy reconstituted themselves and had many lovely adventures.
- Was very amused that Amy immediately came to the same conclusion as fandom did, ie that ganger!Eleven might be the one who died in "The Impossible Astronaut". ONE OF US.

Date: 2 Jun 2011 18:42 (UTC)Two Eleventies was the best bit of the episode. I loved it a lot.
And yeah, I really feel there was one extra character in The Almost People that didn't need to be there. There were only four personalities there and five characters ... whoops!

Date: 3 Jun 2011 11:08 (UTC)That is a good point! If they'd been given a canonical fate, it would probably have been pretty grim. :/
Two Eleventies was sheer joy. ♥

Yeah, that was the problem! Maybe they should have killed off the extra one and hung onto one of the Buzzers...

Date: 3 Jun 2011 17:20 (UTC)Eleventies! I hope Ganger!Eleventy reforms and returns some time. It would only be right. :) If tiring for Matt Smith ...
I totally vote for keeping one of the Buzzers but I must admit, I am biased because I harbour a merry crush on the actor and thus was all "TEHRE'S TWO OF THEM ... aw, there's only one now, still, still one ... oh no, now he's dead too." And I mourned. *nods*

Date: 4 Jun 2011 22:09 (UTC)Me too! And Emmeline could be involved too: I really liked the scene where she told Sugar that she knew who she was, and wanted to see them interacting more.
Heh, I've just been rewatching the second season of Life on Mars, and had a similar reaction: "Hi Chris! TWO Chrises, yay! Oh. OH. D:"

He really is. I sort of forget until I see him in an episode and he does something adorable, and I just go "aw, Chris. ♥"
