ALL the things
Monday, 23 May 2011 13:16- I read some Leverage spoilers and they made me VERY HAPPY. (Spoilers for casting and the basic premise of two episodes at that link.) Specifically, the bit that made me happy was:
PARKER RECRUITS SOPHIE AND TARA. SOPHIE AND TARA IN AN EPISODE TOGETHER. PARKER IS STILL FRIENDS WITH PEGGY. THERE IS NOTHING ABOUT THIS THAT I DO NOT LIKE. Fingers crossed it will be good!
- On the Doctor Who front, I never got round to posting about "The Doctor's Wife" and the moment has now passed, but suffice to say that I really loved it. ♥ This week's I loved slightly less, though. I didn't think it was terrible or anything, just not nearly as great as "The Doctor's Wife". The best bit, I think, was the bit that I missed first time round (I was busy a) burning some garlic, b) slopping boiling water over my hand and c) picking bits of shell out of my fried egg), i.e. team Eleventy mucking around at the beginning. ("Who doesn't love Dusty Springfield?", darts, Rory sticking his hand up enthusiastically when Eleven suggested fish 'n' chips, etc.) Also, it had a character with my name, which rather biased me in its favour. Other stuff I liked: the little look Rory and Amy exchanged over Jennifer's head when she was hugging Rory, Eleven's "what are you doing down there?" when he found the sunken TARDIS, the sets. Possibly I will have more opinions next week when I've seen part two? Maybe. I also feel the need to note that the first ten minutes or so of the Confidential, in which Our Heroes struggle on despite Adverse Weather Conditions (TM), were entirely adorable.
- I watched the first five episodes of The Vampire Diaries at the weekend! I'd heard that it's not great at first but is worth sticking with for a few episodes, and this turns out to be about right. I loved the twist at the end of episode four, which I did not see coming at all, though I am wondering why they need a pocket watch to fight vampires. Is there a Time Lord in it? I will assume so until further notice. Other thoughts:
- In non-TV related news, this week is a busy week! (The good sort of busy, not the too-much-work sort.) Today I had a lovely lunch with
fallingtowers, and tomorrow The Mother is coming down for lunch and shopping. And on Thursday I am going to visit The Sister in Spain! Er. Ash cloud permitting. I heard on the radio last night that it's supposed to be over Northern Spain "later in the week". NO THAT IS NOT WHAT I WANT. Also the forecast is for the temperature where The Sister is to drop from 32C to 14C between Wednesday and Thursday. *frowns at nature*
"when a James-Bond-like thief targets Parker's friend Peggy, Parker recruits Sophie and Tara to help her and, together, the women of Leverage follow the thief to the Venezuelan Consulate, where they discover an international conspiracy."

- Bonnie and Caroline are my favourites! I expect this will come as a surprise to precisely no one. CAROLINE HIT DAMON WITH A LAMP. YES.
- Speaking of Caroline and Damon, I was very D: at their relationship, but pleased that the show was obviously painting it as a VERY BAD THING. (I understand that I will be expected to be sympathetic to Damon later on, though? HMMM.) I thought the bit at the end of 1x04, when Caroline keeps insisting that she's fine even as she's breaking down, was really good, especially when Elena hugged her.
- Elena is also great! I love her determination, and I flailed with joy when she went off to investigate Stefan (possibly going to confront him alone was not the best choice, but given she doesn't know the full extent of Bonnie's powers yet, I'm not sure what else she could do).
- I was pretty :| at Stefan (and therefore Stefan/Elena) at first, what with the listening in on her conversations, enrolling in high school just to meet her and failing to tell her the truth even when she and her friends are obviously in danger. But there were some cute Stefan/Elena moments later on that I would otherwise have liked ("Scolded and judged"), so maybe it will grow on me. Though I am worried, given the end of 1x05, that the show may use "we need to stop Damon" as a reason for rushing/overriding Elena telling Stefan off for lying to her.
- Jenna is pretty great too! But I am annoyed that she had to give Skeevy Man another chance for plot reasons.
- This feels a bit "well done, you have achieved minimum acceptable standards", but I was pleased that Matt (eventually) decided to be a grown up about the fact that Elena dumped him.

Date: 25 May 2011 02:53 (UTC)Team Eleventy being adorable? Always awesome! (though you are right, it didn't quite live up to the amazingness of "The Doctor's Wife"...but then, that ep was beyond awesome so it's a tough act to follow)

Date: 25 May 2011 12:18 (UTC)Yeah, any follow up to "The Doctor's Wife" was always going to feel slightly lacking, but as long as it has ELEVENTY and PONDS it can't be all bad!
