DW: Curse of the Black Spot

Well that certainly... happened. It wasn't terrible, it just didn't really hold my attention (and suffered more by comparison with how much I loved the two parter). There were some good bits, though. Amy buckling her swash (and getting all dressed up to do it)! Rory flailing around and talking nonsense! The small child being a great actor! The alien ship set! "Alien bogies"! But overall I thought it needed a few more rewrites to close up the (many) plotholes and just give it a bit of sparkle. Two things I was particularly annoyed by were the black pirate dying (ok, "dying", but still) first, and the rubbish CPR.
Hmm. I sound a bit more negative than I feel. It had team Eleventy being silly and awesome, after all, and some lovely Amy/Rory-ness, and hats, it just never turned into either as good or as entertaining a story as it should have been. Nevertheless, my squee for this season remains undiminished.
In conclusion: needed more songs. In both senses of the word.
In other news, my essay crisis is still a little crisisy, but since I now have something that is all in complete sentences and is occasionally vaguely relevant, I had a break last night and watched some of the vids that had been sitting in my Google Reader reminding me that I hadn't seen them yet. Here are two recs!

Totally agree with you on all fronts, especially the rubbish CPR. Honestly, it's a miracle that Rory DID manage to live from that...I think it's main problem was pacing. Too much time, not enough plot, too much stretchinggggg of plot. But the idea was good! And it was cute!
