usuallyhats: River Song in her cell, looking up from her diary (river)
[personal profile] usuallyhats
Short version: *BOUNCEBOUNCEBOUNCEBOUNCEBOUNCE*

(I can neither confirm nor deny that I did a little dance of glee earlier on. Ahem.)

Long version, bearing in mind that I am still basically just going SQUEEEEEEEE and a lot of this is just capslock flailing:
  • CANTON. I loved him so much. I sort of got a bit worryingly invested in the idea of him being gay, so much so that I spent most of last week trying to convince myself that he wasn't, just in case, but then he WAS YAY. I am also choosing to believe that the Doctor gave him UNIT's number off screen, all "give them a call in a few years, tell them you're their FBI contact, tell them I sent you". (I believe that a lot, but particularly in this case.) THAT BIT WHERE HE ADJUSTED THE DOCTOR'S BOWTIE. ♥

  • RIVERRRRR. She jumped out of a window! She does that a lot! She knew he'd catch her in the swimming pool! (Why was she wearing an evening gown in that scene? Because she's RIVER SONG, obvs.) SHE IS JUST AMAZING. Though that thing about her and the Doctor meeting in exactly opposite order is demonstrably rubbish, so I shall ignore it.

  • RORY'S SIXTIES OUTFIT. Also trying to be all cool and accidentally breaking a bit of NASA. OH RORY MY LOVE.

  • AMY/RORY SHE LOVES HIS STUPID FAAAACE.

  • Eleventy mouthing "sorry" at Nixon after he broke into NASA! HAH.

  • I kind of love his way of getting rid of the Silents, because he's just reversing the way they took away mankind's ability to fight back, removing their unfair advantage. Very neat.

  • RIVER DID SPINNY THINGS WITH GUNS IT WAS REALLY COOL. "What are you a doctor of?"/"Archeology."

  • I am... somewhat nervous about Amy's Schroedinger's baby, since as many people have pointed out, this is often something SF does not do well at. *crosses fingers it will be ok*

  • SO MUCH ELEVEN/RIVER FLIRTING OH YES.

  • Eleven casually leaning on the invisible TARDIS in the cell was really awesome.

  • LITTLE GIRL REGENERATING WHAT.

  • "What's the point in having two hearts if you can't be a bit forgiving now and then." ♥

  • Probably I have forgotten to say things, that is because I am dazzled by awesome.

  • IN CONCLUSION: DOCTOR WHO IS MY FAVOURITE.

Ooo, and while I am here, can anyone think of any scenes of companions getting to fly the TARDIS? I want to put them in the vid I am making, but I'm sure I must be missing some. So far I've come up with: everyone flying together in "Journey's End", River operating the TARDIS ;in "Time of Angels", "The Big Bang", and "The Impossible Astronaut"; Donna putting a dent in the eighties; Tegan piloting the TARDIS to Castrovalva; Nyssa bashing the console in "The Visitation"; and Romana landing by the book in "The Pirate Planet"... what else is there? Surely there are more Romana scenes?

Romana II must surely fly (and annoy Four thereby) at least once or twice?

As am I - thought I've been racking my brain!

I've just remembered (unless I've dreamt it!) - that Turlough flies the TARDIS in 'Planet of Fire'...

I've been listening to Fifth Doctor audios recently so I wasn't sure if I hadn't conflated one of those with PoF.

Adric flies it at least once, possibly more. I know in Castrovalva he has it programmed to fly back to the Big Bang or something. Not really sure there's much to vid from that, but it does exist. I vaguely recall him flying it when Four was around, too. Turlough also mucks around at least with the controls in Mawdryn Undead.

This is Doctor Who. I'm sure if you google enough you'll find a list someone has compiled of all the characters/episodes it's happened in...

YES YES YES YES YES!!!! I AM SO HAPPY YOU ARE HAPPY TOO!!!! I am beside myself with love for this show I don't even know what to do with myself. And I love that you love it just as much. EEEEE!

I think it's a magic power!!! I am beside myself at this point. She's all I can think about. I want MORE RIVER EPS! DAMN YOU, MOFF!!!!

I'm actually getting to see these eps on the day they're aired, which I've always wanted to do with DW, but because I'm doing it *ahem* online *ahem* ... somewhere ... and on the small tablet-sized screen of my ereader (which blessedly now has Flash-playing capability), I'm probably missing a lot of details of what are already hella confusing stories. But Eleven is reminding me of Seven being all manipulative, in a way that reminds me of the New Adventures, and that's cool for me.

I like the Doctor and Rory's wary, kind of sad, but also respectful relationship. The Doctor is rather kind to him in his weird way, as well as he ever can be with humans.

A lot of fandom hates River. I think she's cool. Just another example of my being eternally out of step. LOL

I'm stupidly amused to see so many New Who fans ranting about how terrible DW after Tennant is, and all I can say is that DW has always been more than RTD and Tennant, and that their favorite DW desperately made me long for some DW I could enjoy again. (Yes, I did like some of RTD's era, but not much of it.) This is probably not something I should even say in public, but oh well!

I can't wait to see more, and hope that I'll be able to carry on watching it, because having to wait for the DVDs is a sad thing.

Ooooh, I like that!

The Watcher flies the TARDIS in Logopolis (to pickup Nyssa) but there's no video and it may not count anyway.

Romana flies the TARDIS in Shada(?) ... don't know how much video would exist.

I think Nyssa manipulated the console quite a bit, even if she didn't fly it alone--especially in Mawdryn Undead and Terminus. Does she also manipulate the console at the beginning of Black Orchid??

Oh you're right about Terminus. Last two Classic shows I watched were Mawdryn Undead, Terminus and Black Orchid and I remember noticing Nyssa at the controls ... Maybe I'm just remembering undead.

AARGH FLAIL I AGREE.

Depending how picky you're being, SJ operates the doors in Planet of Evil...

Susan also also operates the doors at the end of episode two of The Daleks, and Vicki pulls at pretty much everything on the console at the end of episode one of The Web Planet.

Adric and friends set the TARDIS moving at the end of episode two of Full Circle.

Romana takes the TARDIS to rescue the Doctor at the beginning of episode three of Shada, but I don't think we actually see her flying it.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product!

I find it fascinating that all the old-school occurrences people are listing so far are from Five-era or late Four-era. I mean, perhaps those are just the ones that stick in people's minds, but if it really did happen a lot more then, that would be so peculiar and interesting. (Or it could just be down to a production team with a certain random narrative kink. Also interesting!)

That makes sense. I can certainly imagine Zoe doing it, but she didn't, did she? It does seem like something that wouldn't happen that early on.

Any theories about the strange lady with the eyepatch? And is the little girl going to end up being a child of the doctor/River/Amy/a combination of these? Hmm!
