I watched "The Awakening" last night! All I knew about it going in was that it involved a WALLFACE (or possibly a FACEWALL) somehow. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it turned out to be a rather nice little story. Some random observations:
  • I thought the effects were pretty good for the most part - the gargoyle in the TARDIS was great, possibly due to the WRONGNESS of it.

  • There were some nice bits of dialogue, mostly for Five: "You'll have to stop him."/ "Yes. I know." (ok, that one was in the delivery); "You speak treason!"/"Fluently!"; and Five explaining about tea.

  • I loved the end a lot; About Time pronounced it twee, but I disagree, it was lovely.

  • I have been wanting for ages to see hordes of people piling into the TARDIS; seven isn't quite hordes, but we're getting there.

  • Mark Strickson was good in this one, I thought, even though Turlough didn't have much to do.

  • Jane was a great character! I laughed out loud at her beating Five to the door controls.

  • The main thing I didn't like was that soldier getting decapitated towards the end: it was simultaneously too gruesome and not gruesome enough. I was both going D: and wondering why there wasn't any blood.

Voting in Fandom March Madness continues apace! Eleven has made it into the Final Four, excitingly. It is currently very close between him and Veronica Mars, but since I love her too I will be happy whichever of them wins. GO BOTH OF THEM!

I love everything The Awakening chooses to be, it's so utterly smashing and utterly Doctor Who-y. You've got your evil lurking in a quaint English country village, scary bits, history bits, memorable guest characters, an awesome monster, a great TARDIS team (I have so much love for Five, Tegan and Turlough)... the only thing I don't like about it is the rubbish cliffhanger: "Doctooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!"

Lovely Frontios next, woo!

Haha, the 80s were all about crash-zooms on the Doctor's face (I honestly think JNT actually stipulated it) - The Trial of a Time Lord is hysterical in that regard.
