- I really love The Five Doctors. All of it, including the bits that aren't actually that good. Even the rubbish Cybermen are strangely endearing. Though whenever I watch it I do have this mental image of poor Terrance Dicks slaving away over a hot word processor, with Eric Saward and JNT ringing him up every now and then to say things like "needs more Cybermen" and "jsyk Tom Baker has dropped out :(" and "have told Frazer Hines he can be in it but he's only available for one day of filming, that's ok right?" and so on. Also, the DVD has out-takes! I love out-takes and these ones have DALEKS. "BUGGER, I'VE LOST THEM."

  • I always forget that it starts with that "Dalek Invasion of Earth" clip. ♥

  • I may never tire of Lis Sladen gamely trying to make a gentle incline look like a PERILOUS PRECIPICE OF DOOM.

  • Also loved Two barging One and Three out of the way to look at the inscription. ♥ And hiding behind Three later on! TWO IS THE BEST.

  • COMPANION HUDDLE. They all get on so well!

  • OK, so the plot falls apart if you look at it too closely (or, indeed, at all) but this is one of those stories where I don't really mind all that much. Though the crossing the chessboard scene is a bit much: all that palaver about working out how get across safely, but when they actually do work it out, they just... walk straight over.

  • The Brig clocking the Master was of course GLORIOUS.

  • Another highlight: Turlough and Tegan being sent to fetch refreshments (Turlough's glare at Five is brilliant; well done Five, now both your companions hate you) and coming back with cocktails and exotic fruits and... possibly yoghurt?

  • The opening is lovely, very peaceful, and just a really nice break for Five, Tegan and Turlough. Plus Five is adorably proud of his new console room. I love the ending, too. "Why not? After all, that's how it all started."

  • I am not going to get into the "what is everyone WEARING" issue, because I could be here all day on Sarah Jane's outfit alone.

  • That section in the caves which combines torches and flares with a Yeti and Patrick Troughton wearing a Yeti could not have been safe to film.

  • "I wear the coronet of Rassilon!"/"And very fetching it is too."

  • OK, Susan twisting her ankle for no readily apparent reason is a bit eyeroll worthy, but Tegan taking care of her is rather sweet.

  • The Cyberman massacre was pretty gruesome, heads and arms all over the place. Goodness.

  • I have decided that "playing the Game of Rassilon" is my new favourite euphemism. "Oh, they're probably off somewhere playing the Game of Rassilon. IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN." Possibly this is one of those things that is only funny to me.

I looked through my tags to find out what I said about The Five Doctors last time, but apparently I've never posted about it before. Odd choice, self.

- Am going to London tomorrow to go to the Doctor Who Experience with [livejournal.com profile] hhertzof and [personal profile] paranoidangel! :DDD V. exciting, and also I get an extra half an hour's lie in before I have to catch the train, which is not to be sneezed at. Since I don't have an A-Z or a smartphone or anything, I am now going to go and spend some time working out how to get to and from everywhere I might possibly want to get to and from. *draws hearts around the Transport for London website*

The Five Doctors is mad fun. Poor Lis with that gentle slope... :D

"Playing the Game of Rassilon" as a euphemism is very funny.

The Brig is always worth the money. (I'm just listening to 'A Soldier In Time' and wondering if I'll make it through three hours without crying...)

I did manage not to cry - but did quite laugh a lot. He's very candid and honest.

And it turns out Nick loved The Five Doctors too!

"Oh, they're probably off somewhere playing the Game of Rassilon. IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN."

OK, definitely using this now.

Bless her. It's a real shame. This scene could have been quite actually dramatic.

COMPANION HUDDLE. They all get on so well!

I like to think they all bond over eye-rolling at the Doctors.

I absolutely ADORE the "BUGGER, I'VE LOST THEM" scene. XD I also love Carole Ann Ford's reaction to Zoe's outfit in the commentaries.

TWO IS THE BEST.
YES! YES HE IS! ♥

It's been ages since I've seen the DVD extras so my memory's a bit fuzzy, but if I recall correctly the addition of Frazer Hines to the story was actually a rewrite by Saward. Originally Victoria was the one who was meant to be there with Zoe, but then Debbie suddenly had to drop out and Frazer was suddenly available, but since at that point Terrance was away on holiday and out of reach so Saward had to do it himself, botching up continuity in the process.

Yes, it would have been lovely. I love Victoria. Apparently, in Terrance's original draft, Victoria said the line later given to Jamie ("The Brigadier is right!") and Two realized she and Zoe were ghosts because the real Victoria would have called him "Colonel".

Your icon is beautiful! ♥
Thanks. :) The credit for it must go to the ever wonderful [livejournal.com profile] yaseanne.

I KNOW. She's such a trooper, I adore her. But, yes, most of her classic Who outfits are better never spoken of again.

You may like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ8bZgWEoaY - it's a rather funny and clever "version" of the Five Doctors.

It's impossible to dislike The Five Doctors, it's just so much fun. Bits of it are crap yes (Susan will never be useful), but then bits of it are just insanely fab (the bestest bit ever is the Cyberman seeing the Doctor and the Master and going "Ahhh!"). Basically I agree with everything what you wrote.
