- Meeeeme: Ask me my Top Five Whatevers. Fannish or literary or otherwise. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! Fandoms, books I might get around to writing one day, women in my fandoms, ideal holiday destinations, goals for the future, celebrity crushes, books I wish would be made into movies, love songs. And I will answer them all in a new post (or in comments).

- This is the bit where I witter on about Radio 4 comedy. Cabin Pressure is excellent this series! I thought the last series was pretty average but everyone seems to have upped their game a bit and now it is great. (Sherlock fans: Cumberbatch is in it, though so is someone else with a very similar voice so nine times out of ten I can't tell if it's him or not.) Just a Minute has been great this series too; this week's taught me that I like Ross Noble a whole lot, and last week's had Sue Perkins, who makes everything better. Not so keen on Chain Reaction, but it's possible I'm judging it rather harshly because it is in the Friday slot and I am always disappointed to find something other than The Now Show or The News Quiz in there.

- My laptop is running out of hard drive, woe. Does anyone have any clever hints for freeing up space (short of "delete everything!")? Or any recommendations for external hard drive type things?

Western Digital external hard drives are pretty reliable and not too expensive. £30 will net you an extra 320GB. They come with a backup-your-main-drive utility, but you can just skip installing that, or flat-out uninstall it, if all you're using it for is storage.

I use USB memory sticks for backing up/freeing up my hard drive - mainly 'cos I don't have the physical space in this tiny, book-filled attic, for a proper external hard drive. These days you can get memory sticks with up to 32Gb on them - tho' I wouldn't recommend one as the one I have insists on me loading stuff in 2Gb blocks - which is a PITA!! (I've no idea if the 16Gb ones are similar - or if they're like the 8Gb ones I tend to rely on.)

Top 5 books you wish they HAD NOT made into movies for whatever reason. (Why yes, I am being different!)

I shall await your answers with interest...

I've had two Western Digital external hard drives so far, a 250GB and a 320GB, and both are still going strong *knock on wood*. The 250 is about 4 years old now. So, yes, I'd recommend those. Of course, I just had a look on ebuyer.com and now you can buy a terabyte for significantly less than I paid for mine!

I've heard good things about the Western Digital "Passport" hard-drives.

I *really* need to do a back-up stint to my own TrekStor HDD. (Nothing special, but it's Linux-compliant, which is an issue with my wee netbook.)

I'll look into it but suspect it'll be mid-term so more or less impossible! We'll try to organise a Bristol trip soon though :)

Download Ccleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner); it will clear up all the temp files, and you can choose which ones; I kept my cookies. It was recced by several people and I was impressed at how efficient and fast it is. I also downloaded their Defraggler.

[Edit] I assume it will work on a laptop. It only runs under Windows though; check the list of OSs.

It's about the same, but you can adjust it and just do a folder or whatever.

You can also change the "quick" defrag settings to suit you (size of file, number of fragments). Plus there are are other setting I haven't got into yet.
