persiflage_1 tagged me for the seven habits/facts/quirks meme:
A. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it".
(this was quite hard; I got stuck on five for ages. There are not really seven interesting things I can say about me.)
1. FACT: The first time I ever went in a plane I had a go at flying it.
2. HABIT: Whenever I cook pancakes (crêpe style, not American), the first one must contain banana, the second honey and the third lemon juice and sugar. THIS IS THE WAY IT MUST BE.
3. QUIRK: I am very strict about what order I read books in. Essentially it is the order I buy them in but there are also lots of exceptions that I refer to in terms such as "The Series Codicil" and "The Library Override" and "The Pratchett Exemption" and so on. This is entirely sensible and not mad at all in any way.
4. HABIT: I've been boycotting Radio 5 ever since they stopped broadcasting children's programmes in 1994. Admittedly this requires no sacrifice on my part as Radio 5 is full of sport and I care not for sport.
5. FACT: I was born in the grounds of a stately home.
6. QUIRK: I am incapable of eating breakfast whilst watching TV. Any other meal is fine; breakfast in front of the TV makes me feel sick and makes me eat even more slowly than usual. (An hour for one bowl of cereal is ridiculous even by my standards.)
7. FACT: My dad once had a lovely conversation with JK Rowling about Ford Anglias. OK this is not technically a fact about me, but it is a fact I like.

This week I have been mostly watching... The West Wing. I finished season one on Wednesday and had to know what happened next, even though I sort of already knew due to spoilers and whatnot, so I zoomed up to the main university library and borrowed season 2, which was on three day loan, hence how much I have been watching it. I do feel slightly worried that despite the dialogue being fantastically witty and intelligent, the bits I laugh at the most tend to involve someone falling over or getting hit with a door. Hmmm. I am less keen on the bits where they are all "rah rah patriotism" because that is really not my sort of thing at all, but it does do a good job at convincing me that it matters to the characters, even if it doesn't to me. Also CJ is the most awesomest ever, but that is a KNOWN FACT and does not really need to be stated.
Also this weekend I watchthe Something of Boris* Quantum of Solace, which was very entertaining: stuff went boom, cars went zoom, Bond went RAR and I quite liked both Bond girls. Also there was a v. exciting bit towards the beginning where I thought M was going to do some fighting, but alas it was not to be. I liked the scaffolding/roof jumping fight, that was fun. I would have been fairly eye-rolly at the intercutting fight/opera bits if it were not for the fact that it allowed me to make some terrible puns ("it's a fight at the opera!" I said happily), so I forgave them. I also find it quite sweet that they are attempting to emulate the Bourne films.
*this is a large part of why I didn't see it in the cinema; I couldn't be sure I wouldn't get to the window and announce cheerily "one for the Something of Boris, please!"

Date: 22 Sep 2009 12:02 (UTC)I don't get why a lot of people hated Suantum of Quolace (the thingy of wotsit?). I enjoyed it for the exact same reasons as you and I think it's quite admirable that it didn't constantly spoonfeed the audience. It's also a very, very pretty-looking film which I didn't quite appreciate until I rewatched it.

Date: 23 Sep 2009 16:13 (UTC)I would've expected Turn Left and Journey's End to get a bit of a bump for being recent, but not that much :/ And I still can't get over the fact that Turn Left managed three entirely separate racist bits. *headdesk*
it's probably the Hinchcliffe era at its most hysterically gothic, I think.
EXCELLENT.

This is pretty much how I feel about the West Wing I've seen so far. Also, that CJ is the most awesomest ever. I really need to watch more. :D
And I think your facts and quirks and stuff are terribly interesting. :D I need to get around to doing the meme. ;D Esp that your dad met JK, OMG! :D And well, plane. :D Basically, <3 and yay and hee generally. And I think your book system sounds terribly sensible and interesting and not at all mad. I ought to employ similar cuz the number of books I own but haven't read cuz I thought owning them might make me read them is almost as stupid as the length of this sentence.

Esp that your dad met JK, OMG!
He hasn't even read any of the books! He was just getting my sister's copy of Philosopher's Stone signed.
the number of books I own but haven't read cuz I thought owning them might make me read them is almost as stupid as the length of this sentence.
That is EXACTLY why I have the system! Otherwise there are many things that I would have looked at and gone TOO LONG or TOO SERIOUS, but instead I read them and (usually) enjoyed them.
I have indeed not seen Horns of Nimon (YET)! I am very much looking forward to season 17 though, no matter what DWM readers reckon.

Heh, yeah, that happens to me ALL THE TIME. Srsly, this is how I own two copies of Anna Karenina. And I am sure I would like it if I would READ it.
Semi-srsly, whether people find Season 17 funny or not is a fannish yard-stick of mine. ;D BECAUSE IT'S HILARIOUS, DAMNIT. ;D
