Things that please me
Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:09I watched Terror of the Autons the other day. I'm not sure I have much coherent to say about it other than LOL ♥ ♥ ♥ but I will try.
- AHAHA, Yates with gun in one hand, mugs and cocoa in the other. And I adored his sheepish confession and the fact that his sneaky cocoa antics helped solve the plot.
- SHINY UNIT TEAM ILU.
- Oh Jo, with her skeleton keys and her escapology and the way she smiles sweetly when anyone patronises her (which is lots) and then completely ignores what they tell her.
- This story is just so full of happy silliness. Killer daffodils! The Doctor being attacked by the phone cable! Time Lord inna bowler hat!
- There's lots of paralleling of Spearhead From Space going on here, like the bit where Three emerges from the TARDIS amid clouds of smoke, having tried and failed to fix it. I do feel like they're rebooting again, like this is what they wanted to do all along, which makes me a little sad for Liz, whom I love. But on the other hand, this is all just so much fun and I'm looking forward to More Like This.
- OK, one thing I did not love: the actor who played Toberman turning up... and playing a strong and silent type. In a leopardskin. *headdesk*
Last night I watched the first episode of Corner Gas. I loved it, and laughed for quite a long time at a lot of things, like the surveillance bush and the Hank and his protest sign, and "Two words: BOY COTT." and "DEATH FROM ABOVE." ♥
Also massive amounts of fun is this female characters cage match thing! I've been scrolling through it all day, on and off. So many awesome women! (ETA I nominated Anji Kapoor and Bernice Summerfield.)

Date: 16 Jul 2009 14:30 (UTC)The Auton Policeman is a bit scary.
I'm not hugely keen on the Three/Jo dynamic here - they're hardly my favourite Doctor/companion combination (I missed Liz like whoa), but I felt they improved in seasons nine and ten - Carnival of Monsters in particular really stands out on that front. I also sort of rage a bit at the Doctor saying he's "looking forward" to another encounter with the Master, but then Three was amazingly arrogant at times.

Date: 17 Jul 2009 04:13 (UTC)That surprised me. I was like, " . . . I liked this episode until you people started that!"
Who's Toberman, though?
I like the daffodils in retrospect. There's sending flowers, and then . . . there's this.

Date: 17 Jul 2009 08:47 (UTC)Toberman's the character that the same actor played in Tomb of the Cybermen, another strong, silent type, sigh.
The daffodils were ridiculously awesome!
