I watched the first three episodes of Leverage last night! I'd been reluctant to watch it first because I'd heard it described as the US version of Hustle, which I don't like, but then I saw this vid and the two clips of Sophie made me think I would rather like it. And, well, now I have that "shiny new thing to love!" feeling that is so great and the inside of my head looks a bit like this: LEVERAGE LEVERAGE LEVERAGE LEVERAGE LEVERAGE LEVERAGE LEVERAGE LEVERAGE LEVERAGE LEVERAGE. It is just so much fun! I love all the characters (my favourite is definitely either Hardison or Parker or Sophie or Eliot - sorry, Nate!) and I love how much fun they're obviously having. I am even half-hoping that my next rental DVD from lovefilm won't have arrived when I get home tonight, so I'll have an excuse to watch MOAR LEVERAGE.
Also from the department of "things I saw yesterday and loved": Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Fun times! (Though I was one of only three people in the cinema, and the youngest by several decades, which is always a little weird.) It was made with such obvious and infectious enthusiasm, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the way they played with Greek myths - the lotus eaters section was great, and Medusa was genuinely creepy - though having Persephone in the underworld at the summer solstice was a silly mistake. The effects were great, the bit in the underworld with the flotsam and jetsam of dead hopes streaming past was wonderful. I really liked Annabeth and was pleased that she had her own reasons for going on the quest. I was also glad that the scenes at the hero camp (would've loved to have seen more of this, btw) showed quite plainly that she was far from the only fighty woman. The film did have a few problematic elements (the harpy, various seductresses, and the fact that when our heroes all stood in a line there was some obvious invisible black woman syndrome going on) but there was some good stuff too. And now I have the first of the books reserved at the library, since I hear they're even better.

Date: 24 Feb 2010 15:38 (UTC)Leverage is A LOT OF FUN! I've never seen Hustle (though I've been given that description of it too) - and I confess I don't want to. Hardison is my hero (though I do love crazy Parker and Sophie...)

Date: 26 Feb 2010 10:22 (UTC)I read somewhere that when they were originally shown, the episodes were in the wrong order - I don't know what order you're getting them in, but apparently this is the right one:
1.01 The Nigerian Job
1.02 The Homecoming Job
1.07 The Wedding Job
1.09 The Snow Job
1.08 The Mile High Job
1.04 The Miracle Job
1.03 The Two-Horse Job
1.05 The Bank Shot Job
1.06 The Stork Job
1.11 The Juror #6 Job
1.10 The 12-Step Job
1.12 The First David Job
1.13 The Second David Job

Date: 28 Feb 2010 16:25 (UTC)Not sure if you're in a fic-reading stage of your new Leverage relationship, but if you are, I recommend The Green Light Job. I just found it recently when I went on a Leverage fic reading binge and, IMO, this story feels like a bonus episode for Season 1!
