OH BEING HUMAN. It is quite telling that my main reaction to this episode opening with the fridging of another woman was "oh no, not again." Have there been more dead women this season or am I just noticing it more? ...I'm not sure which answer I would prefer, to be honest. Some other thoughts on this episode, which on the whole I did enjoy:
- I loved Robin and was sad that we didn't get to keep her. Am now shipping Annie/Robin, btw. Actually all of Annie's storyline was pretty great: standing up and taking charge is a good look for her. And all the scenes with her mum were very moving, by which I mean I had tears running down my cheeks by the end. DON'T GO, ANNIE!
- The scene on the sofa at the beginning: just what I've been missing this season. I could've done without the latent homophobia ("men are showing emotion! That is not Proper Manly Behaviour! Quick, let's shame them by accusing them of being gay!" Because men and women totally behave in certain set ways and being gay is obviously shameful. Except not.) but Mitchell getting hung up on the skinny jeans thing was GOLDEN.
- The little scene where Mitchell hears Annie and George arguing and pauses for a moment on the stairs before going in was very telling: in some ways, they're becoming just another problem. :/
- Another thing I hate about George: the way he talks to Molly. His tone is so incredibly patronising, it makes me grumpy.
- I am sort of assuming that Mitchell will be ok (though I will be a) sad and b) rather impressed if he isn't) but I thought Ivan might be doomed when he started getting all fluffy at Mitchell. I did feel that this might be a little out of character, but I'm not sure we've seen enough of his character to be certain. Anyway, my predictions: Mitchell = alive, along with at least a few of the others. Ivan = probably dead. Daisy = NOT BEST PLEASED, dead before the series is out. (ETA: that last is because I don't think she was there. I don't remember seeing her at the meeting, but I might be wrong, and in that case it might be her that's dead and Ivan who's all vengeful.)
- Mitchell's whole "woman-person, you are the only one who can save me!" is annoying me a bit, with the implied "if you do not love me I will GO EVIL and it will be YOUR FAULT" subtext. And yet I still like Mitchell a lot, I don't know why this is. Attaching himself to one particular person doesn't seem to fit that much with what we've seen of him before: he's seem to need a community, a family, rather than a One True Love.
