Here is a post about the last episode of Dr Who. Yes, I know it was a while ago now but I have had Thoughts (Quick, Someone Inform The Local Press, Jenni Has Thoughts Shock!) and my thoughts are that I liked it and it was a good ending for Rose. The way I see it, she's kept all the good things she had in Rose, gained some more and improved the bad things. Back in Rose, she had a good, close relationship with her mother, a job, albeit a not terribly glamourous one, and a boyfriend who she was fond of and had fun with but who was a bit on the hopeless side. By the end of Doomsday she's kept that good relationship with Jackie whilst establishing that she can stand on her own two feet if needs be. She's got a dad now, and ok he's not technically her dad but eh, close enough, he seems like a decent bloke and he's actually closer to her idealised version of Pete than the "real" Pete was, and she's got a sibling on the way. (This series has been very much about how Lonely Is Bad And Family Is Good, and I think it's important that at the very end Rose went to Jackie for comfort and it wasn't just Jackie running to her - she knows she's not alone, even if she has lost the Doctor.) Mickey's come into his own and proved himself. He doesn't need her so desperately now and I think that if they did get back together they would have a much better relationship. And even if they don't, they're good friends. He understands how important the Doctor was/is to her now. And now she has the job of saving the world! Excellent. Also, her crying on the beach didn't strike me as being all desolate and inconsolable but more cathartic I suppose. Of course she's sad, she's lost the Doctor who was a huge and wonderful part of her life for maybe two years ish (it's hard to tell) and now she'll never ever see him again. So she's going to have a big cry and a hug from her mum, then she's going to dry her eyes and go back to her great new life. And she knows how great it is, she was obviously proud of it when she was talking to the Doctor. Also, she won't spend the rest of her life wondering if he's going to come back for her. Or worse, having him pop back all the time (eventually wearing a different face) for a cup of tea, or to take her on a quick trip to see something cool that he's just found. Because I can just see him doing that and thinking "Look at me, not abandoning her! I have truly learned my lesson from that time Sarah Jane yelled at me. I think I've Grown. Yay me!" while all the time she can't move on because she's wondering when he's going to be back. On a vaguely related note, I liked that she chose the Doctor and world-save-age, knowing the risks, but I think the fact that she got saved by Pete recognised that it wasn't the only choice she'd ever made, she'd also done lots of other stuff that meant Jackie and Mickey loved her and wanted her safe. Hm, this has got pretty rambly and incoherent. Ooo and another thing, all that talk from Rose about how "this is the day I died" isn't necessarily her saying that she thinks her life is over - the Doctor died and he's ok, and I think that she is thinking of it as a regeneration, in a way. If there's one thing we learn from Dr Who it's that change is inevitable, change is healthy, change is good. Plus, Daleks vs. Cybermen! Everybody wins!

Am v. glad I've tipped all that out of my brain, it was getting it the way.

It is v. hot here and there are lots of people with difficult library questions. Most of the students who use this library are post-grads so they are here all summer, demanding theseseses. But on the plus side I have three tomato plants and two of them are probably alive!
