usuallyhats: The cast of Critical Role sitting round a table playing Dungeons and Dragons (polly the way she looked)

The weather has taken a turn for the mild and as a consequence I am wearing a sticky-out skirt with spots on it. I even made it out into the garden at the weekend, for just long enough to chop the dead bits off my geraniums. I was working on Saturday, but I rewarded myself with a trip to Borders armed with the happy combination of £20 worth of book tokens and a voucher for £5 off when you spend £25. I emerged clutching Stardust on dvd, Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb (I got the first one in this trilogy for my birthday; nine and a half months later it reached the top of my book pile and I loved it), Superior Saturday by Garth Nix and Knife by [livejournal.com profile] rj_anderson, which [livejournal.com profile] lizbee recommended a while back. It will probably be many more months before I actually get to read them, but still, new books!

Here is a meme from [livejournal.com profile] livii: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

icons/graphics: Icons! They are just tiny pictures but I love them so. I love looking at them, and making them, learning new techniques or making serendipitous discoveries - sometimes the lack of pictures for Classic Who can be a bit frustrating, but it's totally made up for by the lovely feeling when I do manage to make something I'm happy with out of a picture I've looked at time and time again. Bigger graphics are the same but more so; I'm really pleased with my LJ header, for instance, but it took quite a lot of going ARGH ARGH ARGH to get to that stage!

really loving all of Doctor Who: I left talking about this one til last cos... where do I start? I do love the whole canon, more or less: even the bits of it I like less have something to recommend them, like the NAs, which have The Also People and gave us Benny and Brax. I love seeing all the different takes on the same basic premise: you can sum the premise up in a sentence, but the potential is so vast and wonderful. There's such a huge variety of stories that have been told and can be told; it's fascinating to see how the same idea's interpreted through different historical/culture contexts, and through different media. I love the huge canvas and massive cast of major and minor characters. I love the fandom, all the lovely people I've met through it and how it is so diverse and full of awesomeness. The show and the spin-off media and the fandom just make me so happy!

having an amazing collection of DW books: Aw, thank you! ♥ (Btw, meant to say this when I posted the pictures, but forgot: if any of you on my flist want to borrow any of my Who-books (or, indeed, any of my books, lending them out is half the point of having the things) you are more than welcome to, just give me a shout!) The thing with DW books is - it's like the universe went "hey, you know how you love books? And you know how you love Doctor Who? Well, we've smooshed those two things together for you! Have fun!" The fact that the result is often pretty awesome, well, that's icing on the cake. Plus, other things I like include collecting things and rummaging around in second hand bookshops/charity shops: the thrill of finding something I've been looking for is wonderful, but I also enjoy just mooching around, even if I don't find anything.

being one of the most cheerful people on my flist: Mustn't grumble, eh? :) Seriously, this is a lovely thing to be described as, thank you! I like being cheery, it makes me feel cheerful and then there is a big cycle of yay. Plus, I have lots to be cheerful about, y'know? My life is pretty good on the whole.

POLLY: Well, she is SO SO PRETTY for a start! She strikes me as the sort of person who has time for everyone, whether she's known them for ten minutes or ten years - witness the way she automatically involves Dodo (who she's only just met) in her plans to cheer up Ben, who she's also only just met. But she's no doormat: look at how she stands up Flash and snaps at Ben when he accuses her of encouraging Flash. The face she makes when Professor Brett is talking about her typing skills is adorable! (Yes, I have just watched The War Machines, how did you guess?) I also love her matter-of-factness in The Highlanders, the way she refuses to be daunted whatever happens to her, instead managing to regroup and come up with a new plan, and how frustrated she gets with Kirsty's refusal to be rational, because it's what I was thinking too!
