Miscellany, mostly DW-related
Thursday, 8 January 2009 13:08- The other day I watched The Space Museum which I did enjoy despite the plot not really making sense - I can almost see what they were going for with the jumping timetracks thing and it was a noble effort, but it doesn't quite work, and though they spend ages talking about whether it's possible to change the future, they never seem to wonder if they should or not (unless I missed that bit - the picture was running about six seconds behind the audio, which made things a tad confusing). But leaving that aside there were some fab bits - the Doctor hiding in a Dalek and thinking about penny farthings! Ian trying to eat Barbara's cardigan! Vicki saving the day by inciting revolution and reprogramming computers!
- I am currently reading another EDA, The Infinity Race, but sadly it's not very good. It's not terrible, just a bit meh, but the characterisation of all three regulars is pretty shaky and neither the original characters nor the plot are interesting enough to make up for it. Boo! Doubly frustrating as next up on my book pile is the new Terry Pratchett (sorry, SIR Terry Pratchett :D) which I really want to read noooowwwwww.
- So glad it's beginning to warm up a bit! In typical genius fashion, I've managed to move into a flat with no central heating in time for the coldest winter for a while, sigh. (Coldness being relative, of course - it's pretty balmy compared to what some of y'all have to put up with, but from my perspective it's brrr degrees celcius and my nose is cold ) My parents bought me a heater for Christmas (among other things) and last night it was actually pretty warm in my sitting room, hurrah!
- Was v. impressed by Francesca Hunt in the BFA Other Lives - the scene where she realises that the Doctor really isn't Edward was heartbreaking. It was a good audio all round, I thought, although the coincidence of the Doctor, Charley and C'Rizz all just happening to ressemble people who'd temporarily gone missing was a bit stretched at points.

Date: 8 Jan 2009 13:55 (UTC)Most of the time I was enjoying the audio enough to ignore how ridiculous a coincidence it was, but every now and then I had to stop and go "no, wait, this is a bit silly, isn't it?" :)
