Your main fandom of the year?
Still Critical Role!
Your favourite film watched this year?
I really liked The Old Guard, it was one of those really satisfying films that knows what it wants to do and does it well. The plot and themes worked, the emotional beats landed, the fight scenes were great, it was a good time.
Your favourite book read this year?
I read a fair bit this year - for some reason, reading really worked for me when a lot of other things (including re-reading) didn't. Some highlights:
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
Music was something that didn't really work for me, alas. I did really love the new Caduceus Clay playlist though.
Your favorite TV show of the year?
Still Critical Role!
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Hey so there's this TV show called M*A*S*H, don't know if you've heard of it?
I spent so long not watching M*A*S*H mostly out of inertia, since I wasn't sure it would be my thing, and it would have taken slightly more effort to get hold of than I wanted to put in. FRIENDS IT IS EXACTLY MY THING I AM SO HAPPY I LOVE IT SO MUCH. (NB I haven't quite finished it yet, no spoilers please.)
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
My expectations for Birds of Prey were so low! All I wanted was some footage of Cass I could use for vids, and anything else would have been a bonus! But no, all I got was more evidence of how little DC cares about the Batgirls. Sure, let's erase Oracle from the team SHE FOUNDED! Let's ditch all of Cass's personality, history, abilities and disability! Seems fine! Like, I didn't actually watch it, I'm sure what it did do it did well, but I just cannot get over what it failed to even try at.
Your favourite male character of the year?
Still Caduceus Clay, soft judgy aroace weirdo of my heart.
Your favourite female character of the year?
I think Yasha might have just overtaken Beau this year? She's so awkward and so kind, and her offbeat sense of humour is so good.
Your favourite non-binary character of the year?
I didn't end up loving Phoenix Extravagant like I wanted to, but I loved its protagonist, Gyen Jebi, A Good Bean Trying Their Best In Difficult Circumstances.
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Caduceus being confirmed aroace. <3 Like, it was pretty clear already, but having it be explicitly stated, and having Taliesin confirm that he is both ace AND aro, was so much. I am also having a lot of feelings about an allo person being like "yes, I want this character that I am going to inhabit for several hours a week for the foreseeable future to be aroace". <33333
The most missed of your old fandoms?
I don't know that I miss it exactly, but it was really weird watching all the MCU news recently and seeing the contrast between how little I'm interested in it now and how excited I would have been five years ago.
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
I'm not sure that I have one - there's a few things I wouldn't mind checking out, but nothing I'm desperately keen on picking up.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
I'm not quite in the right headspace to be excited about fannish things that haven't happened yet, which could still not come off or be bad or what have you, but I definitely want to see what happens with the new Leverage (NEW LEVERAGE).
