The Invasion of Time: a Review in Pictures
warning, image heavy, not suitable for dial-up users or persons of a nervous disposition, contains barely perceptible witticisms, usw.

"Bored acting," comments Louise Jameson sagely on the commentary. Sadly it is not the greatest commentary ever, Louise Jameson is good and there are some quality anecdotes but it does drag a bit in places. I may as well admit upfront that I thought the story did too, a bit: there were lots of things I liked but not six episodes worth of stuff.

The Vartans: reknowned throughout the galaxy for their rather snazzy pens. Also there is some plot happening but I shan't bother with all that.

Hello Andred! I like your nose. No, seriously, in his first few scenes it made him look a tiny bit like Simon Jones; reminding me of Arthur Dent is a quick way to my heart. Said nose seemed to change shape in later episodes which was rather disconcerting.

Photobucket
I am very amused that going to amber alert involves putting an amber ping pong ball in the appropriate slot.

Photobucket
Entirely non-gratuitous swimming pool scene.

Photobucket
I adore Leela's slightly petulant insolence in this scene. "Yes, that outfit's good," says Andred; Leela promptly discards it.

Photobucket
Also win is her very serious response to Andred's "Try not to kill anyone." Her pride in the Doctor when she is asking if the ritual does him honour is lovely too.

Photobucket
Hee, the slightly bitchy Time Lords! Nicely shot, this scene, with all the setup happening in the background.

Photobucket
I can't get over the fact that the Artefacts of Rassilon are being carried in on transparent blow up plastic cushions.

Photobucket
Having the Doctor talk to an imaginary Borusa was a great way to do this scene. I love the board of keys; at first glance I thought it was a painting. You'll be glad to hear that I have resisted the urge to make a joke about not seeing the wood for the keys.

Photobucket
This scene cracks me up - Andred clearly has no idea what a jellybaby is, if the Doctor had solemnly lodged his in his hair, Andred would have done his best to follow suit. It tickles me that Andred is clearly still eating his jellybaby when he gives his next lot of orders.

Photobucket
"Oh, one does, doesn't one?"
Louise Jamieson gets to use her mime skills. ♥

There was also a very good scene in here between Leela and Rodan that I didn't cap; instead, some dialogue:

Leela: Discussion is for the wise or for the helpless. I am neither.

Rodan: And if I'm right?
Leela: Then I am wrong. And I will face the consequences.

Photobucket
I love Leela's red cloak, I only wish I'd been able to get a better cap of it.

Photobucket
The bloke on the right seems to have got lost on the way to a production of Robin Hood.

Photobucket
I really like this scene. The other Time Lord is very good and it's a nice bit of character work for Andred.

Photobucket
I tried to get a cap of Andred's "oh dear, he's completely bonkers in the nut, isn't he?" face, but I kept getting UNEXPECTED FOUR/ANDRED instead. Oops. Also worthy of mention - Four trying to explain his plan to Andred:

"But you're going to have to concentrate. Can you do that?"
"Yes." [thinks about it] "...what?"
"Never mind."

Photobucket
K9 > calculator.

Photobucket
I like to think that at the bottom of his CV Andred has "makes a very useful hatstand, in a pinch".

Photobucket
"Hurray, hurray, we've won, and much sooner than we were expecting. I say we spend the next two episodes having a giant party, can I take that on a general aye?"

Photobucket
In both this cap and the previous one Louise Jameson and Chris Tranchell are doing sterling work in building up the relationship between their characters; sadly Tom Baker keeps standing in front of them.

Photobucket
I suspected at this point that Rodan was a potential new companion, or that Romana was partly based on her, and the commentary confirmed it.

Photobucket
Redesigning the Sontarans: never a good idea. Erm, not that I am a terrible reactionary or anything. *eyedart*

Wandering around in the TARDIS; I am a sucker for stuff like this and only wish there was more of it, ever. I could have taken hundreds of caps of it.

Photobucket
This scene would be NOTHING without the bendy straw.

Photobucket
I really love this shot. Tom Baker is very good at striding.

Photobucket
"The Gallifreyan Guard's Guide to Fighting Sontarans: biff a deckchair at it, then scarper."

Photobucket
"Pick a door, any door" and Andred follows Leela to her door, aw. Also this is an excuse for me to post another cap of the inside of the TARDIS.

Photobucket
For some reason this is the scene where I fell for Andred, though I liked him from the start. This probably says something deep and troubling about my psyche.

Photobucket
Goodbye Leela. Sniff. Rather a nice little set of scenes, despite the fact that by all accounts they were hurriedly done when they realised that they really couldn't persuade Louise Jameson to stay. The Doctor gets some good lines: "she'll look after you, she's very good with a knife," "I'll miss you too, savage." Overall there was a lot more development on the Andred/Leela relationship than I was expecting, which was good, and I think given the circumstances it works rather well; they are very sweet. I also liked this exchange:

Borusa: Where will he go?
Leela: Somewhere else.
