the haunting of thomas brewster
Tuesday, 29 April 2008 09:56I should be catching up on my friendslist but I listened to The Haunting of Thomas Brewster last night and I just had to post about it. Warning for pretty big spoilers; seriously, if you haven't heard it yet, don't read on! (Also there are spoilers for the Telos novella Eye of the Tyger wot I read the other day.)
FLAIL! Well done Big Finish, I was completely surprised by Thomas being the new companion. When Robert went off to fight the monsters, I thought "nah, he can't be dead, he's the new companion! Unless they're pulling a bait and switch and it's Thomas instead. But they wouldn't do that." And then they did! Maybe it's because I'm so used to being spoiled for everything, but I was completely knocked for six by that twist. I am a bit sad that Robert is (probably) not the companion; he was sweet and I am a big enough softy that I get all sad when it seems like someone is going to get to be a companion and they don't (see also: The Eye of the Tyger, though I have other reasons for not entirely liking the ending of that one). I am assuming that he came back to life when the paradox got collapsed? And I shall continue to do so unless I have evidence to the contrary. Maybe he will be the new companion after all? I have no idea, and I love that! I notice that the July release is called "The Boy That Time Forgot" so presumably that will be dealing with all the fallout from collapsing the paradox? And with the Doctor and Nyssa getting the TARDIS back, of course. Unexpected cliffhanger! And a really good one, too! Oh I loved this audio very much. I think I need to go back and listen to it again, because the fantasticness of the ending has made me forget all the other things that I liked about it, the setting for one, and all the jokes in part one: the Doctor's beard! "a three cup of tea problem" and so on.
And now I go to spend my birthday money on another twelve plays.
