1) Re LJ's latest foolishness: I will not be crossposting anything from LJ to Twitter or Facebook, especially not comments to other people's locked posts, ye gods. I had been vaguely considering renewing my paid account but now, not so much. (They have also broken any tags with a slash in them. GOOD SHOW, CHAPS.) The bit where Facebook users without LJs can now comment on LJ posts might be useful, though, as long as a Facebook ID can be treated like an LJ user, ie people can chose to ban individual IDs, or screen all facebook comments by default, etc.

2) This year's Cheltenham Festival of Literature is having a sci-fi stream, directed by China Miéville. I'm thinking about going to a couple of things on the second weekend - China Miéville and John Mullan talking about sci-fi and literary fiction, and Iain M. Banks, Gwyneth Jones, China Miéville and Michael Moorcock talking about British sci-fi - anyone else interested?
