I have returned from a lovely Isle of Wight based holiday, in which I did many fun things like painting pottery (me: "shall I paint a soap dish or a Dalek?" everyone else: "A DALEK."), admiring scenery, looking at owls and monkeys, playing games ("I think the rule is that Izzy is allowed to take any fish she wants to the North Pole, and no-one else is allowed to take any at all."), tasting wine, observing glass and sweets being made, and going on walks. Here are some photos!

(Side effect of going on holiday: I came home, looked at the internet and went "...reply to ALL the things? D:". I am getting there, but do feel free to poke me if there's something I really ought to have replied to by now! ♥)

Also I have caught up with Doctor Who. There were a lot of things I liked or loved about both episodes, but I just cannot get over the fact that baby Melody is still missing and none of the characters seem to care. It completely baffles me! She's just a baby and she's been kidnapped and they're not even trying to get her back, or being sad that they can't. It's making it impossible for me to enjoy anything else that happens, because I can't stop thinking about it.

"The Girl Who Waited" also annoyed me by going on about how which Amy to save was Rory's choice. ...why? Why was it not Amy's decision to make? And the Doctor claiming he could save both Amys when he knew he couldn't (maybe not at first, but definitely before he locked old!Amy out) was just cruel. That bothered me a lot. I was pretty sure we weren't going to get to keep old!Amy (sadly, because she was amazing), but I was expecting her to die trying to save her younger self or something like that. D:

Oh, I hate this. I was really loving Mofftime, and Doctor Who is the fandom of my heart, and it was so good to be enjoying its current iteration again. I've got everything crossed for something improbable and wonderful to happen in the finale that will retrospectively make everything OK again, but I can't see how that's going to work at the moment. I just want to be happy watching Eleventy and the Ponds again!

I'm pretty sure that Rory and Amy are only there as "flesh clones" or whatever. On the one hand I can see that they can't include a baby in their adventures, on the other hand why even bother with the whole pregnancy thing just to shove it aside?

The girl who waited looked so much cooler in the preview. The whole time line business Moffat is so fond of gets tiresome. How could Amy survive this long on the "kindness" planet? Where did she get food or water?

And I also thought that she would die trying to save her younger self.

Yes, this is basically my problem with Doctor Who right now. I've come to the conclusion that the writers don't care about the emotional fallout from the Melody-napping, which is fair enough and all, but if they weren't going to even try and give it some emotional continuity they really should have thought of another way to resolve River's storyline.

I agree with everything you say about Doctor Who. I did not have the same vociferous reaction to it as other folks in fandom, but I am disappointed with this season, even though I just want to love it - because of ELEVENTY and RIVER and THE PONDS. :(
