1) Attention people who live in London and like squid and craft: the Natural History Museum are having a knit-a-squid evening on Friday! (Of course they are.) Also from the department of things that make me wish I lived in London and wasn't busy this weekend: the Prince Charles cinema is having a Star Trek weekend, showing all the films between Friday and Sunday.

2.) As usual I have been watching a lot of TV.

a.) MOAR AVATAR.
  • SOKKA. He is so down to earth and funny and unbothered about his lack of superpowers! ♥ I loved him being all Sherlock Holmes-y, and his epic facepalming over the hippies (the hippies were hilarious, the badgermole song was a particular highlight). "We let love lead the way."/"Really? We let huge ferocious beasts lead our way."

  • So many ♥s for Katara, her sweetness and her fierceness, and her determination to do what's right and not to let anyone tell her she can't.

  • Azula's voice actress reminds me a little of Paris from Gilmore Girls, which is a compliment as I am v. fond of Paris. I have a feeling her team-up with Mai and Ty Lee is going to be awesome.

  • I ALSO LOVE IROH. I just love how he has this attitude of having seen everything and knowing what's really important i.e., tea and music night. And how much he loves Zuko! And how much he mocks Zuko. OH ZUKO. I love him too.

  • And Aang of course is just adorable ♥

b.) MOAR FRINGE. How much did I love the bit where Daniels Broyles (I spent ages learning his name on The Wire and it is taking me a similar amount of time to adjust to it not being his name any more) accuses Olivia of being emotional, and she tells him that a) that is something men always say to put down the women they are working with and b) being emotional makes her better at her job? SO MUCH. Olivia is just made of win. When she asked the guard in "Bound" to bring her a drink of water, my first thought was "I hope she glasses him", and then SHE DID. And then just broke herself out, all skill and competence and amazingness. And I really like the fact that every now and then she just lets herself have a minute to go AAAHHH for a bit. I am also constantly entertained by Astrid being all snarky and competent. ♥ And I think at sixteen minutes, "Bound" has set a new record for longest teaser ever.

c.) MOAR DOCTOR WHO. It's been a few weeks since I watched "Creature from the Pit", so not much to say about it, other than that I really enjoyed it (apart from the scavengers), thought Adrasta was a great villain, and that Romana was AMAZING in it. Sadly she was less good in "Nightmare of Eden", though she did have some excellent moments ("I'll need a screwdriver"). Fashion notes: apparently border guards' uniforms have glitter accents in the future? And shipboard security wear sparkly tabards over long sleeved brown leotards. STYLIN'. Also, Romana! What are you wearing? I suppose she does at least seem to be able to run in it fairly easily. I thought the actual plot in "Nightmare of Eden" was pretty good - there were some nice ideas, like the two ships locked together, and the habitat-storing crystals - though sadly the effects on the spaceship crash weren't quite up to it. (And I am generally very forgiving of dodgy effects!)

3.) 30 Days of Who!

Day 19 – The Scene That Made You Cry the Most

montage of scenes from the last episode of The War Games

(OK, this is actually lots of scenes, you should all report me to the Meme Police. I will regret saying that if it turns out there actually is a Meme Police Force.)
The War Games does a brilliant job of backing the Doctor into a corner, so that by the time he makes the decision to call the Time Lords in, we can really feel how desperate he must have been to do that. And then the consequences are so heartbreaking, but it's done in such an understated way... it's just brilliant.
