EEEE HE SAID IT HE SAID GALLIFREY! And I had been just about to yell "You know what it's called! Say it! Say Gallifrey!" or words to that effect at the tv! Also: POCKETS! hee. Now I've got that squee over with, I must say that overall I thought it was a bit hit and miss. Donna really annoyed me at first (personal peeve - I don't like characters who are rude. I suppose she was a bit justified though what with one thing and another) but thinking about it now there was quite a lot about her that I liked. She was willing to challenge the Doctor which was excellent, I liked that she slapped him when he was technobabbling to show off but asked him questions instead when he was technobabbling to explain things, and I'm pleased that in the end she decided not to go with him but to see the world for herself. I was rolling my eyes at the seventeen thousand uses for a sonic screwdriver and "oops, better stick some Christmas in!" bits (especially the snow at the end, argh, and the fact that it was clearly shot in July not December) but I loved the TARDIS/car chase immensely. One new series thing I particularly love is seeing the TARDIS fly as well as dematerialise, it's very well done and it looks great. As for the Rose angst some of it worked and some of it didn't. The bit towards the beginning where Donna is asking about her was great (mostly cos of DT's acting) but the bit at the disco was just too much - if it hadn't been "the Doctor looking sad in a roomful of happy people" AND the song AND the slomo flashback it would've been better but they overegged the pudding a bit by using all of them at once. Loved "she's so alive" and Donna asking if Rose had punched the Doctor in the face before she left. The monster looked very good (wish it had been a surprise though, pesky Radio Times!) but I almost nodded off a few times in her speeches. Ten was great, I love him a lot! Geeking out over the tunnel to the centre of the earth! And the effects in the creation of the world scene were just lovely. The references to and echoes of earlier episodes varied wildly between "cute", "interesting" and "they couldn't think of any new plot so they just painted the old bits pink and hoped we wouldn't notice, didn't they?". I also felt it dragged a bit in places. So some good bits, some bad bits and some average bits then. Martha looks fun though, am looking forward to her. Here endeth the Deep Thoughts.

Christmas = muchly fun! V. nice to be back home in Cheltenham avec family and schoolpeople. Too much was eaten, games were played (my parents destroyed The Sister and I and then fought each other to a standstill in Monopoly), presents were opened (DVDs! Books! Kitchen stuff! hurray.) and generally fun was had. And today the grandparents are coming to visit, shiny.

I have much love for the Christmas special. Donna was shrieky, but I thought that she had a point given that she thought she had been zapped out of her wedding by evil, abducting Martian, so after she calmed down I forgave. And I did like the slapping.

Catherine Tate and David Tennant really worked well together as Doctor and sort of companion. I hope the chemistry is as good between the Doctor and the new one!
